We were headed back to the hotel and decided to stop at the Acropolis of Rhodes. We were so glad we did. It was magical for the kids to look around and imagine the stadium and theater in their good days. Too bad the ruins have no signs and not very clean.

On one of the highest points and just outside Rhodes town with views over the town on one side and the coast road and airport on the other, the Acropolis (also known as Monte Smith) is the remains of a temple. Below this is well preserved amphitheatre and stadium. The more energetic local person or tourist can be seen running... More

I visited on a rainy day, which I don't recommend as it gets pretty muddy and you get drenched. Anyway, the site is pretty nice, but it is small. There's the stadium when you first enter and a theater to the right. When you walk up the steps, you'll see the ruins of a temple. Great picture opportunity.

Only a short bus ride to Monte Smith from Rhodes Town and a gentle walk up to the site. At the site is a stadium, restored theatre and after climbing a large number of steps, partially hidden to the side of the theatre, the Temple on the Acropolis. Well worth a visit although there is no information at the site... More

We walked their expecting to climb a hill but the theater and other ruins were on the flat. Only the temple was up high - involved going up steps not roped off at side of theater. The other side of the temple looked like the road train might of stopped. If so this would save you going up the steps... More

Set fairly high up looking out to the western coast near Rhodes town. I would recommend getting a taxi up there and after having had a look round, walk in a north easterly direction into Rhodes old town. The acropolis is not the best example of this type of architecture but is dramatic against the sky line. Set down the... More

Nearly killed me walking up all the steps but you can stop on different levels along the way. Was stunning views and amazing history at the top. Be brave! Well worth a visit.

About 20 minutes walk from the Old Town, one of the most striking things about the place was how few people were there. Obviously not being a fixture on the schedules of the standard sun-seekers, you can find some space to yourself at this almost completely open spot. The running track is probably the highlight, and you need to apply... More

This is really amazing! Totally unspoilt and not commercialized at all. There is no entrance fee of souvenir shop. You can just turn up and wander around. Anyone visiting the island should hire a car and take it all in. The beaches on the west side are very stoney but the sea is a perfect swimming temp for six months... More

Worth a trip as it's free , an information board would have made this far more interesting, just a few steps away and the Olympic stadium is near, also free and worth a look
