One of the most picturesque islands of the Dodecanese, Symi promises its visitors peace and tranquility. The main city of Gialos with its neo-classical houses climbing amphitheatrically up the hill, shows the grandeur of the island. Being world famous for its natural sponges has brought Symi a great wealth which is reflected in its local architecture and culture. A stop at the beautiful bay of Panormitis is a must, the 17th century’s monastery of Saint Michael welcomes its pilgrims as well as its tourists to admire the treasures dedicated to the saint for his miracles. A visit to Symi should not be missed! « less

Stunning photo scenes of the arrival of boat approaching island.we arranged our own travel and got tickets for the hovercraft 35 euros each but well worth it , took 40 minutes instead of 2 and half hours excursions.

A perfect way to discover the island from 10:30 to 17:30. Yanni, the captain is very friendly and his crew serve a fantastic lunch. 35 Euros well spent.

Whilst the crossing took two hours, like crossing the English Channel in fact ! What a lovely place Symi was.Our daughter had visited last year....."If your in Rhodes Dad,you must go to Symi,it is fantastic." We weren't disappointed,it was so pretty in the sunshine, the azure blue sea,the colourful villas on the hillside, the harbourside tavernas. In fact everything about the place was... More

The boat trip was good value at 20 Euro for the whole day. However, I found the island a little disappointing. Vey pretty colourful Venetian style houses but really the sole purpose of the place seems to be to take as much money off tourists in the shortest possible amount of time. They know you are only there for a... More

We are sitting between two gigantic cypresses looking out at the most perfect little harbours in the Aegean,in Horio where beautiful Neoclassical houses are a reminder of fortunes made from shipbuilding and sponge- diving. We sailed across from the Turkish mainland to anchor here for five days. The island is striking for its nakedness, deforested by shipbuilders, but dazzlingly beautiful island, one sees... More

Picture perfect harbour. We took a Dodecanese Seaways ferry & included a bus trip to the monastery. There is a free bus from where we bought the tickets to the ferry & back again. If I were to do the trip again, I would choose the catamaran which calls at the monastery rather than spend a few hours on the... More

Whilst in Rhodes, we did a boat trip to Symi, set off early and returned about 6pm, I seem to remember! Although slower than the ferry, it didn't take too long and we had a stop off to visit the monastery on the way which was very interesting! The scenery, as we were sailing along, was beautiful. On arriving, the... More
