Boat trip to volcano

Booked a day trip from Kos. Lunch and a swimming stop on the way. Great experience to go down to the crater of a live volcano.

Need roughly a whole day for the trip to the volcano as you need to take a ship to the island and then take a bus there. Best would be book an agent who will arrange the whole trip. Tha volcano is half alive so I find it a bit dangerous to stay there too lang. Plus is burningly hot... More

On Kos for a week or two and fancy a day out. This is the place to go. One hour boat trip from Kos to Mandraki then up the volcano. Superb views across the Aegean and into the Volcano. The right down into the volcano. Highly recommended.

You must not miss this if you are visiting Nissyros. To actually walk over the centre of a live volcano is something I will never forget. DO NOT wear flip flops as they will melt - the ground floor is very hot!! We were told not to stand still for more than 30 seconds or your shoes will start to... More

Hired a car, drove up and into the crater!! It's huge and then within there are sub craters of which you can walk down into at least one of them with the bubbling sulphur mud. All very interesting. Also a cafe and toilets.

This visit was a part of an overall visit to the island for the day. The volcano is an incredible natural creation in sheer size and scale. The descent into the crater is not too bad but anyone with walking difficulties might need to think again. Once you are at the bottom of the crater it's really quite strange totally... More

I had visited the site many years ago and was keen to share it with my friends. There is now a visitors' centre with a cafe and toilets, so a more civilised place to visit!! Wear good shoes as the caldera itself was dusty and muddy. As the floor of the volcano basin is still 'live' walk with care and... More
