If you have the possibility to take a boat trip to Nisyros, a small island within an about one hour from Kardamena I would like to recommend that. We walked from the harbour into the small town/village called Mandraki which was very beautiful. Then we took a bus trip to a small village above the volcano from where we could... More

Very good day spent at the Volcano. The driver leaves you at the location for 50 minutes, as the fumes from the volcano may be sickening and poisonous. There is the possibility of walking inside the Volcano which is dormant, but active, but, BE CAREFUL, do not jump or run where the soil is soft or cracked, as the soil... More

The \volcano (crater) is a bit of a side show which takes 2 mins to see and get your photo's, however you are left there 45 mins to partake in the expensive refreshments in the only kiosk. The trip is saved by the visits to the village in the hills (sundays only and marked as 'special') and also near the... More

Great impressions! It is possible to look at volcano boiling as close as you want! The tremendous power of this place is really felt.

Nisyros is a very green and unspoild volcanic island between Kos and Tilos. I took advantage of the "SUNDAY SPECIAL"dodecanos express 39euro offer for a round trip boat trip from Rhodos old port 9-1900 and saw Halki and Tilos from the fast boat before arriving after 3 hours at Mandraki,Nisiros main village. There were many flowers and very friendly people... More

We came to Nisyros from Kos as part of the day long excursion offered by Thomson. This was the last stop, and the best stop. Everyone was saying how disgusting the volcano smelt, but as the smell was similar to eggs, it actually made me hungry! The walk down into the volcano was easy enough, but I did slip a... More

Booked an excursion to Nisyros from the our hotel and had a wonderful time. The cruise out there was great to be on the upper deck taking in the beautiful scenery. Then once on the island we visited a small village were around 20 people still live and you can walk around the village seeing these traditional people go about... More

I had never visited an active, sleeping volcano before. And needless to say that it was an amazing experience! You can see and feel the steam coming from the holes in the ground. Mind your shoes though because the sulfur combined with the heat can literally melt your soles. If you like, you can buy a small jar with some... More
