Ancient Thera was just OK. There is a lot to see, and some of it is pretty neat, but most of it is half-excavated simple square houses. I saw that someone recommended a guide, and they are correct in that there isnt a whole lot of information around the site (a few decent description boards), but I'm not sure they... More

We took the minibus up to the site and boy were we glad we did. It is a long way up along a very good winding road but we didn't relise how big the site is when you get there. There was no guide available just a leaflet with some descriptions on the site.We started off early as it closes... More

Well worth the trek up by road rather than via car/bus as good to be able to stop for pictures as you go. It took about 40 minutes to walk up. There are benches if you need to stop. Paid 2 euros to get into ancient Thira which is much bigger than first appears to be. There's a short guide... More

I'm sure that with a bit more information this would be a very interesting place. There were no guide books for sale and no guided tours. The interpretation is a bit better than at Akrotiri, with well-presented information boards at intervals. However access is restricted by ropes, and there are sentries in little huts to make sure you stay inside... More

We caught a bus up to this site from Kamari at a cost of 5E return. The driver left us there and collected us 2 hours later. You can walk up to the site but you need to be fit as it is all up hill - about 1,000 ft above sea level - and the road is winding hairpin... More

The ancient city itself is very interesting. You'll find signs explaining the sites you're looking at. The views are wonderful, spetacular. I mean, views in Santorini are usually spetacular from anywhere but in this place you have ruins + views (!!). If you're by bus, I suggest to hike up from Perissa Beach and go down to the other side,... More

It's quite a steep drive and even steeper walk up, but totaly worth it. You can see some good ruins of a city that was inhabited for over 1000 years. Also incredible views of Kamari and the Agean Sea. cost only 2 euro. More
