Beautiful views, and best way to avoid the 800 step climb from the old port. We walked down the winding pathway from Fira centre through what can only be described as a donkey nightmare. At one stage we were encircled by three runaway donkeys followed in close pursuit by numerous others struggling under the weight of the less mobile cruise ship... It's so easy to take tram to go up rather to walk or take the other way with the donkeys. Beautiful views from up here and faster.

We had taken a bus up to the top; but took the tram down. Great views all around. Fun just to sit and watch. Long line to get in, and the station isn't the cleanest place there, but definitely take the trip.

On our visit, we used tram to save time. It is comfortable and quick to go up on the hills. It is more convenient if you are visiting during summer time!

Its the best and fast way to Fira Square Santorini.Don't try the donkeys as you will pay trhe same price as the tram and the road is dangerous.

If you're fit, use the stairs. Do not use the donkeys, they are mistreated and no one should be encouraging the abuse. The tram is an ok alternative, but it's expensive for such a short ride. And if you show up at the same time as cruise ships, GOOD LUCK! I rode it down after sunset to see the old... More

Go with the cable car to save time. It is the same price as the donkeys. Do not use it if you are afraid of heights (or close your eyes!!!)

We decided to wander down to the Port from Fira at the top, to kill time on our last day. Having survived a three hour hike to Oia earlier in the week we thought a gentle walk down then back up would be straightforward enough. So be warned here of two main reasons why you should take the Tram/Cable car.... More

I'm absolutely terrified of heights, but with the promise of good shopping from my husband I took the Santorini tram up and down. It wasn't really that bad! Smooth very short ride. There was 4 of us in the tram carriage going up and 6 of us going down. The tram accommodated all of us comfortably both times. The price... More

The team descends from the pedestrian street in Fira to the port. A lot of boats leave for day cruises from this spot. At 10 euro a piece, we thought it was a little expensive just for a ride, but still had to do it. I wouldn't say it is a must, but it might be if you need to... More
