Go with the cable car to save time. It is the same price as the donkeys. Do not use it if you are afraid of heights (or close your eyes!!!)

We decided to wander down to the Port from Fira at the top, to kill time on our last day. Having survived a three hour hike to Oia earlier in the week we thought a gentle walk down then back up would be straightforward enough. So be warned here of two main reasons why you should take the Tram/Cable car.... More

I'm absolutely terrified of heights, but with the promise of good shopping from my husband I took the Santorini tram up and down. It wasn't really that bad! Smooth very short ride. There was 4 of us in the tram carriage going up and 6 of us going down. The tram accommodated all of us comfortably both times. The price... More

The team descends from the pedestrian street in Fira to the port. A lot of boats leave for day cruises from this spot. At 10 euro a piece, we thought it was a little expensive just for a ride, but still had to do it. I wouldn't say it is a must, but it might be if you need to... More

Other than taking you from one spot to the other, it also provides you with an excellent view and it is not expensive. There was no line up when we were there.

We walked down the donkey path and took the tram up. It took us about half an hour to come down since there were so many donkeys going up. Some of the stairs smell bad, but on the whole the views coming down really made our walk worthwhile. We made sure that no cruise ships had come in at that... More

We had to queue for an hour today to get back down, standing in incredible heat. It was a very disheartening experience. The queue stretched around several blocks. At the princely sum of 5 Euros I expected better.

The cable car ride was included with our shore excursion. Plan to be in line at least an hour and a half before the last tender to your cruise ship to be safe. Lines are long but the ride and view was worth it.

My title statement is not exactly correct as you can walk both up and down from the dock to the top however be forewarned, you may need a break and drink when you walk up. Somewhat easier when coming down. If you have any limbs that ache then take the Tram. It is inexpensive and more quickly. Don't be worried... More

We took a one-way trip from Thira/Fira(?) down to the cruise ship tender area. The duration of the ride is approximately 2-3 minutes, and you get amazing views of the cliffs as you go down to sea level. There are 6 cars and they run every few minutes. The annoying thing that destroyed our cable car ride experience is the... More
