Two euros on bus number 6 from Heraklion gets you to a number of footpaths leading to the sea at Amoudara, which is an area rather than a destination. Get off the bus just after Creta Beach resort and look for the LOTOS sign. We found Lotos Taverna the best bet for food and drink and sun loungers. There was... More

This is considered as the city beach for Heraklion with easy access by bus. The area has lots of restaurants, souvenir shops, shopping centres etc. as well as cineplex to keep you occupied

Avoid this place like the plague. Unless you like hot sand, warm saltwater, cool breezes, bright sun, and total enjoyment.

Excellent sandy beach ideal for walking. Great for adults and children. Snorkelling off the beach on the reef about 50m out

Nice beach. Very touristic. Amnisos beach is better. The water is clean and have a beautiful color. There is nothing else to do in the area.

Ammoudara beach (close to Heraklion = 8 km from the city center) is never full. The beach is clean and has a few good restaurants along it. The sea is mostly very calm In the morning and starts to give some waves after 11 O'clock. Nice to swim and jump into the blue water. Chairs and umbrellas are for free... More

Unfortunately, the beach all along this area is taken up with sunbeds and umbrellas almost right down to the shoreline. This alongside noisy, loud music from the many bars made it definitely not for us. If you want a quiet stroll along the beach listening to the waves gently lap the shore, then find somewhere else. You can't even walk... More
