This archaeological museum is definitely worth a visit even though it's not a large one. Seeing Greek civilization in the past is always exciting and gives you an insight into their past.

The part of exhibition which works is great. It is better to admire the Minoan frescos there than to visit the reconstructed Knossos. The collection is really interesting and worth 5 stars. However, without any additional notice, the part of exhibition with the most famous Minoan masterpieces was closed. That was an astonishing disappointment.

This museum, in the center of Heraklion, allows you to visit the city and having a look at the past. Offers you the view to different times of Cretan civilisation with some unique artifacts. Don't miss it!!!

The museum shows some outstanding gold jewellery that at a glance would look like it was the latest design. There is also lots more to see.

It's small and parts were closed, but still worth seeing. The Minioan collection was mostly closed, but still a good experience.

This recently modernized museum is a must for any visitor to Crete. Modern exhibits help the visitor understand Crete's fascinating history. My only complaint was that there were no benches to rest on in the large exhibit halls.... I wanted to just sit and drink in the fabulous displays. The guards are VERY attentive and made me feel a bit... More

The Minoan artefacts are a major part of our European cultural heritage. I saw them 25 years ago & they affected me deeply. Now I've returned to Crete & I was looking forward to seeing them again. But no. There is nothing on the museum website to indicate they are not on display, apparently the Greek Tourist Board office across... More

A really lovely museum, airy and spacious with very important exhibits from sites all over Crete. The layout was very well set out making it easy to go through the separate rooms without having to back track. However there are still areas that are closed off and unfinished to be opened to the public. So many years now same old... More

The museum is a must-see as it has all the good stuff from excavations all over the island. That is, the authorities decided that it was better to get it all in one place than spread out across the land. Okay, I get it, but why is it not showing what it's got? Like the tablets of Linear B, with... More

We recommend that you try to visit this one museum before you even visit Knossos and any of the other sites. Mainly because it seems the collection has most of all the important finds (copies are at the sites) but it also puts the history of Crete and the main sites into context - making it so much easier to...
