Belonging to a large European family of aquariums, the Cretaquarium offers its visitors the unique chance to plunge into the great marine world of the Mediterranean. From the big hunter sharks to the tiny seahorses, the sensational jellyfish, the diversity of marine life is set off against underwater Cretan seascapes such as the rock formations at Matala( South Crete)and the sea bed at Vai(North East Crete). « less

The aquarium was larger than I was expecting and good value for EUR 9. Although there are a lot of exhibits of different kinds of grouper and other dull-coloured fish, there were some lovely tanks of rays, moray eels, sea anemones and lobsters. The sharks were also very impressive and kept in a lovely big tank - we watched them... More

If you are travelling with children of 3 and more, you definetely should visit it. Great aquarium with sharks, a lot of fun for children. Nice time for adults. You can reach it using one of the regular busses of Minoan lines.

We visited the aquarium in late August and went in late afternoon. It was fairly quiet so was great to be able to see all the tanks without having to wait for a quick look. The shark tank was impressive and there was a lot of information if you wanted to read it. The fish all seemed to be in... More

Many aquariums, loved the sharks, maduzaz and lobsters, but only 1 colorful reef fish tank, the rest are big/small/medium grey fish (groupers etc.) the place is very dark in most parts so not every kid would like. no squids or octupuses or stingrays. geat morey eels tank, but looks small for the ells themselfs. very friendly and helpful crew.

9 Euros for this was, in my opinion, very overpriced. It's a bit of a pain to get to, far out of Hersonissos and when the bus dropped us off we had to walk down a fairly unsignposted road for about 15 minutes until we arrived. Once inside they didn't tell us that the touch pools were closed for the... More

After so many talking about the 'famous' Aquarium of Crete -and in fact one, if not the only, we have here in Greece- I would be liar to say I was impressed. In fact, I was dissapointed. I would evaluate it just acceptable. Fishes not impressive at all, blur waters to all tanks, dirty and old-fashioned signs, just acceptable toilets,... More
