Belonging to a large European family of aquariums, the Cretaquarium offers its visitors the unique chance to plunge into the great marine world of the Mediterranean. From the big hunter sharks to the tiny seahorses, the sensational jellyfish, the diversity of marine life is set off against underwater Cretan seascapes such as the rock formations at Matala( South Crete)and the sea bed at Vai(North East Crete). « less

The aquarium is pretty nice, and well maintained, but the visit is brief, and at 9 Euros per person (over the age of 5), kind of pricey in the end. Not a lot to add to other reviews - it's in the middle of nowhere, fairly nice, but there really isn't that much to do there. Also, some of the... More

We got the aquarium bus from outside the hotel (otherwise it would have been a little difficult to get there). Cost 3 euros. Very clean, interesting exhibits. Large tanks and helpful staff. Has restaurant and outside cafe.

We visited the aquarium peak time in august was in the middle of nowhere surrounded by deserted buildings and rubbish. When we arrived the place was completely empty hardly any visitors. Very minimalistic and not what I was expecting at all. There wasnt much variety of fish many of them were the same just in different tanks. Definitely better things... More

This is a well-run attraction, mid-sized (smaller than the Baltimore Aquarium) but with enough big and small water tanks to keep you and the kids busy for at least one or one and a half hours, depending on how long one remains mesmerised by the exhibits. With information in English for all exhibits and additional languages for most, it has... More

Easy to get to from bust station in Heraklion but then 10 minute walk. Cost was 1.60 euros each way - taxi stand near bus station quoted 25 euros each way. Aquarium is fairly standard - appeals mainly to children, could have more fish to see but in pleasant location near the see. Worth a trip if you have kids.

This was lovely specialized aquarium. Don't expect to see lots of brightly colored tropical fish. The fish here are specific to the seas around Crete. Nicely arranged in a circuit with lots of smaller aquariums and a few larger ones including sharks that swim overhead. Jellyfish, lobsters, grouper, sand sharks, eels and more. Signs in Greek and English and the... More

This is a great little aquarium with all of the usual candidates swimming in its tanks. Ideal to get out of the sun for a hour or two.
