This has to be seen, it is so moving to think of the people who lived and died here not that long ago. A very interesting visit and one which will stay in my memory forever I am now reading "The Island" by Victoria Hislop on the back of this visit, so interesting. You should definitely add this to your... More

The Spinalonga ruins are in very good shape and you really get an idea of what it was like when it was in use. It has a rich and diverse history that is very connected to Crete. We took the boat from Elounda which was about a 15 minute boat ride. I would recommend everyone visit this place while on... More

A true story...An interesting small island..But first read the book " THE ISLAND" by Victoria Hislop. Then Elounda is a nice place. And go and eat in Plaka while you look at the sea, and you feel you are at the end of the world....beautiful quite place on earth....

I read the book The Island by Victoria Hislop and visiting Spinalonga bought it all to life. Its a beautiful place even with the sad background it has. well worth visiting but again good walking sandals area must and water, wear a hat but be careful of the strong breeze both on the island and the boat going across.

Brilliant again can get very busy in peak times but with a visit. Plaka is small and friendly village at the foot of a mountain with brilliant views over to Spinalonga. Great for lunch but It can get a wee bit windy in the afternoon but dies down as quick as it started. Love the area.

A 20-minute boat ride from Elounda will bring you to the island of Spinalonga. Full of history, this former leper colony is worth spending a couple of hours on. There is some restoration work going on but despite that, the atmosphere is tranquil and it is a lovely place to walk around. Our trip organiser told us to back at... More

We travelled independently as Thomson wanted €50+ each!! We took a taxi from our hotel to Elounda harbour €7 and purchased two tickets €10 each and we were off! A nice Meze lunch back in Elounda rounded of a very enjoyable visit.

Can pick up a tour ferry from 3 different towns, we chose Elounda = faster & cheaper than Nikolaos, & in summer, boats reliably run every 20 mins! Took E75/90 east bound, then the “old road” to Elounda. Turn off old highways when you see sign for Elounda, then 1 more turn (again there is a sign) to put u... More

A fascinating island - so small, but so full of history. Like others we caught a small boat from Elounda which cost about 10 euro each. As we stepped off the boat they said to return in 90 minutes, but there is no way you can justice to this island in 90 minutes. We spent almost 3 hours and could... More

We booked the cheapest fare from elounda port total €12, this meant we didn't get a guide but only had 1 hour on the island until the boat departed, an hour was plenty of time not only to walk around the island but also climb to the top, the cost for a guide from the hotel would have doubled the...
