Really good day out with brilliant tour guide. Fascinating history and you just have to read The Island by Victoria Hislop if you haven't already ...brings it all to life. Quite eerie but in a good way.

What happened here at the start of the 20th century is very sad, but it is a superb place to visit and immerse yourself in the history. Read about it before you go, as without a tour guide, there is nothing to explain what happened there.

We took the boat from Agios Niklolaos which takes around 1 hour. The guide was very knowledgeable and delivered a very detailed history of the island. The tour takes around 45 minutes with the guide and you have a further hour to easily walk round the island. This is a very good trip to do which takes a half day... More

Spoke to the locals in Plaka and were told about the impact the book had on the local economy. Spinalonga was more interesting than I thought it would be, as I did not realise its true history e.g. used as a... More

Really makes you sit and think, especially if you read the Book The Island before you visit ! A 1 hour visit really isn't long enough.

Great trip organised independently rather than through aThomas cook. Very interesting story behind the island. If you are staying in Elonda then this trip is a must.

My wife and I took the boat out the island. As usual with all lovely old places it has been allowed to fall apart. It is amazing but countries, Ireland included, they would rather that their best places fall down before they do anything about it! We didn't take a guided tour but it was easy to walk around. Sad...
