Been to Spinalonga three times now while staying in Elounda. Great day out gets very hot in the summer months and there is not usually anywhere to get a drink once your there. First came to the area after reading 'The Island' so this visit was a must. Views to die for so take your camera.

Try and read either The Island by Victoria Hyslop or another book by Beryl 'Someone' ( (whom I have been told is even better!) before you go even if only to make the whole trip more worthwhile. If you don't, like me, you will still have a great morning/afternoon out. Suggest you wear sensible footwear and definitely take water. We... More

A great place to visit. Just as I'd imagined after reading the book "The Island". Surrounded by crystal blue sea a very special place with a great history. Not to be missed if you visit Crete.

The island was brilliant and very true to the book, such a beautifully place. The water was so clear around the island it made you want to jump in. We went on an organised trip which was fab as afterwards we had a bbq which was awesome .

The boat trip from Elounda out to Spinalonga was good and having a guided tour was really interesting as we learn't so much about the history of the Island. On our return we had a chance to explore Elounda which had some lovely shops in town and lovely seafood restaurants along the sea edge.

It is a very interesting trip. A place with a lot of character and history The boat frip from Elounda is exceptionally picuresque and the extra bonus of a circumnavigation made it all a trip to remember.

I had read the book 'The Island' based on the period Spinolonga was a leper colony so wanted to visit. We caught a boat from Plaka which is a lovely village and well worth a visit anyway. The boat took 10 mins and cost 8 euro return but you can also get a boat from Elounda for 10 euro and... More
