Description: CRETE…A SMALL CONTINENT Walking in the Botanical park & Gardens of Crete...
CRETE…A SMALL CONTINENT Walking in the Botanical park & Gardens of Crete offes spiritual tranquility and visual pleasure in addition to knowledge on plants and their material . Nearly 20 hectares of land are waiting to welcome you, full of fruit trees from all over the world, herbs, medicinal and ornamental plants in a park different from others, where the land’s formation and the region’s microclimate make it a paradise for hundreds of plants and animals! In the midst of this colorful and vivid landscape stands a burnt centennial olive tree, a memorial and a reference to the dismal fires of 2003, the park’s history and origin. The newest and one of the most interesting sites of the Prefecture of Chania lies only 18 kilometers outside the city, on the feet of the White Mountains. It is ideal for visitors of all ages, combining enjoyments that only Crete can offer!

Well labelled trees and shrubs are densely planted on terraces across a steep valley side. There's lots to see, even if you have a passing interest in plant life. The 2km walk (1km option available) takes 90 mins to 2hrs depending on how engrossed you get. Admission is 6Euro for adults, and includes a 500ml bottle of cold water each.... More

We decided to go to the gardens in the late afternoon as we thought it would be a bit cooler. We went at 6, I would think that the best time to go would be 5 so you have enough time to do the longer route. There are two routes or trails starting at the top of a valley and... More

Firstly I have to say that the service and staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. When we got out tickets, they offered us fruit from the garden. These orange slices were delicious! There are two different routes to take. Part way through the walk, it splits into the longer walk and the shorter walk. The shorter walk is 1km, while... More

Very interesting and instructive especially for families with children. The garden is placed on terraces, with nice views very diverse plants. It takes minimum 1-1.5 hours to visit.

We took the bus to go there and we were afraid that we will not have enough time but it was very good. Very good and relax day. Take water with you if temp is high.

Went to this park by local bus, only one going and coming back, but gave plenty of time to see everything. The park was well laid out, with a large variety of plants which were well labled with interesting information. A nice touch was the welcome as we arrived, being offered fresh slices of oranges and water. Also there were... More

There is a mini bus that goes from Chania through some of the towns to the park every morning. You need to check their website for details! The park itself is full of amazing fruits, vegetables and herbs from all over the world. And plenty of beautiful ornimental plants growing there too. There is a self guided walk around the... More

Ok, so most visitors probably want to visit the beaches of Crete and the beaches are spectacular, but we live near the beach and wanted to see some of the plant life of Crete. This place is an absolute gem! We spent hours wandering the trails, identifying plants that are similar to what we grow at home (and learning a... More
