Description: CRETE…A SMALL CONTINENT Walking in the Botanical park & Gardens of Crete...
CRETE…A SMALL CONTINENT Walking in the Botanical park & Gardens of Crete offes spiritual tranquility and visual pleasure in addition to knowledge on plants and their material . Nearly 20 hectares of land are waiting to welcome you, full of fruit trees from all over the world, herbs, medicinal and ornamental plants in a park different from others, where the land’s formation and the region’s microclimate make it a paradise for hundreds of plants and animals! In the midst of this colorful and vivid landscape stands a burnt centennial olive tree, a memorial and a reference to the dismal fires of 2003, the park’s history and origin. The newest and one of the most interesting sites of the Prefecture of Chania lies only 18 kilometers outside the city, on the feet of the White Mountains. It is ideal for visitors of all ages, combining enjoyments that only Crete can offer!

Highly recommended place to visit. Well signposted from Chania (probably the best signposted attraction we visited!). The Botanical Park rose from the ashes of a devastating fire in the hills above Chania in 2003. It is perched on the side of a mountain slope and has been planted with fabulous plants and tress. It is a privately run Botanical Park... More

It's a good option when you need a 1-day rest from sunbathing. It takes 2 hours to go around the park and you can end your walk in a restaurant with good food. In the park there is many beautiful flowers, nice smelling herbs and a lot of chilly shadow. Also due to the fact that it's located on a... More

Really worth a trip. I am not really into plants but these gardens I are fantastic. They have been made from the ashes of a burned olive grove. There is an amazing range of plants from all over the world to see. A bit like the tropical biome in the Eden Project but outdoors. You have to be fairly fit... More

This place is divided into sections presenting trees, flowers etc. from many different geographical sites. You go through them following a shady path. Besides the garden there's also a shop selling food made out of products planted there. It has very nice views on the whole place. All in all if you're a wanderer and nature lover it's a good... My partner and I really enjoyed walking through here, the hilly terrain was a nice change from the usually flat botanical gardens we have walked through. The restaurant was lovely, with an amazing view to go with the fresh food picked straight from the garden. Staff were friendly.

Beautiful place with plants from all over the world. Stayed for the Cretan night afterwards which was brilliant, very informative talk from the owner and Cretan dancing that everyone can join in with.

I am not normally that interested by botanical gardens; I have been to a few in the past and generally the words 'dragged around' have sprung to mind. The Botanical Park of Chania, however, provides the visitor with a great overview of not only local Cretan plants, flowers and herbs but also an insight into some of the most interesting... More
