Description: CRETE…A SMALL CONTINENT Walking in the Botanical park & Gardens of Crete...
CRETE…A SMALL CONTINENT Walking in the Botanical park & Gardens of Crete offes spiritual tranquility and visual pleasure in addition to knowledge on plants and their material . Nearly 20 hectares of land are waiting to welcome you, full of fruit trees from all over the world, herbs, medicinal and ornamental plants in a park different from others, where the land’s formation and the region’s microclimate make it a paradise for hundreds of plants and animals! In the midst of this colorful and vivid landscape stands a burnt centennial olive tree, a memorial and a reference to the dismal fires of 2003, the park’s history and origin. The newest and one of the most interesting sites of the Prefecture of Chania lies only 18 kilometers outside the city, on the feet of the White Mountains. It is ideal for visitors of all ages, combining enjoyments that only Crete can offer!

Nice visit in spring when flowers are blooming and orange flowers have lovely scent. Two hours walk up and down the hill side with all the different kind of plants and flowers. Entrance fee includes bottle of water and you can borrow a hat and hiking stick if you wish. Beware of the turkey couple by the bond! :D

Wonderful experience. You really can take two hours to walk 2 km. As well as the interesting botanical specimens, the wildlife is fascinating. The food offered in the cafe at the end is also to be recommended. Friendly and enthusiastic hosts.

We got the public bus from Chania to the botanical gardens (very easy to do) and spent 2 hours walking slowly around the 'gardens'. Its stunning! We then stopped for lunch - wow! Best meal we have had in crete so far. Fresh food with fantastic views and service. A brilliant day. Thank you.

If you like nature, and able to walk down and up hill, this is a place for you. Botanical Park of Crete was reborn from its ashes after a big fire in 2003. It is unbelievable how nicely a circular trail leads you from the restaurant (sell also the tickets) under an open sky, via different colors, smells and small... More

Experience Greek hospitality and the magnificent terrain in the Botanical Park and Gardens of Crete, located on the road that leads to the village of Lakkoi, Omalos, and the Samaria Gorge. It is definitely worth the drive. The Botanical Park of Askordalos is nearly twenty hectares of land; full of carefully labelled and cultivated fruit trees from all over the... More

You can have a great walk in the valley. The restaurant serves excellent home grown food. The whole garden smelled of oranges in blossom :) They have delicious home made honey there!

Great walk! Great lunch! I suggest to go with children > 4 y old because some steps are quite tricky for a little child. +++++

The staff welcomed us with free fruit from the garden and water bottles for the walk. We then walked up and down in the sandy garden with plenty of interesting and beautiful plants and flowers. They had plants from all over the world, which was really impressive since it didn't seem like a place where flowers would have an easy... More

...and get a little bit of exercise. We've visited the park three or four times. Nothing new to see, but it's always a nice and calm garden walk. The scents of spices and fruit are lovely, and if you enjoy gardening or agriculture, you really find interesting things to see here.
