Description: CRETE…A SMALL CONTINENT Walking in the Botanical park & Gardens of Crete...
CRETE…A SMALL CONTINENT Walking in the Botanical park & Gardens of Crete offes spiritual tranquility and visual pleasure in addition to knowledge on plants and their material . Nearly 20 hectares of land are waiting to welcome you, full of fruit trees from all over the world, herbs, medicinal and ornamental plants in a park different from others, where the land’s formation and the region’s microclimate make it a paradise for hundreds of plants and animals! In the midst of this colorful and vivid landscape stands a burnt centennial olive tree, a memorial and a reference to the dismal fires of 2003, the park’s history and origin. The newest and one of the most interesting sites of the Prefecture of Chania lies only 18 kilometers outside the city, on the feet of the White Mountains. It is ideal for visitors of all ages, combining enjoyments that only Crete can offer!

This is well worth a day trip. Beautiful landscape, interesting collection of plants from all over the world and some local animals to keep the kids happy. No need to rent a car, there are buses. The food and drinks in the restaurant is OK but wouldn't be worth the money if you didn't have the view and the appetite.... More

There are many different plants to see at the Botanical Gardens. I made sure that we did not rush round and took time to see the plants at leisure. Some of the plants I had seen I had never seen before but had heard of them. It was very interesting to see some of the plants as most of them... More

We didnt want to go there first because we thought it will be boring, but actually it was the highlight of our stay in Crete! You can buy there cheap fresh organic oranges too.

Walking here in the beautiful park with our children was a delight. Located in a beautiful village, this gem is a refreshing escape from the busier touristic attractions. The views and sights are breathtaking and the restaurant serves excellent organic local cuisine. We highly recommend this place and look forward to coming again.

Created following the disastrous fire which distroyed the olive groves, but now a vast oasis of calm and a collection of plants , trees ,fruit and vegetables that explain the eco climate and indigenous produce of Western Crete.Worth a visit to see the botanical gardens alone, but disappointed with the food and wine served as part of the Cretan evening... Make sure you have sturdy footwear as this is quite a hike. (not advisable if you struggle with walking as its an uneven surface) You get a bottle of water to take with you included in the admission fee. Interesting collection of plants, especially fruit and flowers from across the globe. Restaurant is well worth a visit at the end... More

A great place to go on a hot day - lots of shade and a constant cooling breeze when we were there. Kids (6 and 9) loved it and had no problems with the longest path. Good salads at the restaurant.

We visited the park after a recommendation for lunch and it didn't disappoint. We visited on a Monday so the park was quiet, we were welcomed by friendly staff and a bottle of chilled water included in the reasonable entrance fee. We found the park really interesting with a hilly but relaxing 2 km walk (you can do a shorter... More

This is really well run place. It is accessed via quite a steep road, and you wonder where the garden could be. But the trip is well worth it. Beofre you go in, you are given a bottle of water. You are also invited to borrow a walking stick from the selection they have at the door. I would strongly... More
