We happened by this amazing museum after a planned visit to Knossos was cut short by torrential rain, thunder and a threat of lightening, and so our taxi driver suggested a visit to the museum. We were so delighted to have gone, an absolutely fascinating collection, well laid out with good descriptions and each room a treasure in itself. Don't... More

Holds so much good History of all the very famous stuff! No flash photography is allowed though. We had it guided as part of a first choice trip and the woman knew loads and was very good.

The archaeological museum at Agios Nikolaos is currently closed for refurbishment works. Understand not likely to reopen before end of 2014?

nothing to dislike but research before you go is a must. Be warned in summer heat you are in the open most of the time so take water , sun block and protection hats etc.

This was worth going to look around as a contrast to the other less cultural activities on offer in Ag Nik. If you cannot get to Knossos or the LAto remains near Kritsa then this museum is the best way of starting to understand the truly ancient nature of Cretan and Minoan history and culture.

But absolutely worth a visit together with a visit to Knossos. Both places are very popular, so it is better to go early in the morning. The cost of the visit is surprisingly low.

We wanted to go to both Agios Nikolias and Heraklion museums, the first one was being rebuilt and the second one was being refurbished with just two rooms open. A total waste of time.

I love the whole setting of the museum, starting with the oldest finds and slowly getting "newer".Its labeled in english and each piece is explained what it was used for.Its not expensive and has a good selection of postcards. The bad news is that it has closed for modenisation and I'm not sure when it will re-open.
