I have to say I massively disagree with the reviews posted so far. It may be because I work within the museum industry and so am overly critical but I was so disappointed with the New Acropolis Museum. Whilst aesthetically it was stunning, of course and the layout is very cleverly matched to the orientation of the Parthenon, there is... more

Others have written about the collection. It is spectacular, particularly the Karyatids and the friezes. The architecture is something else. First: the building is a giant black shoe box in a city that is predominantly white. It is out of character not only with Athens but particularly with the pretty and renovated neighborhood. Second: all the interior walls are unfinished... more

This modern building is at the base of the acropolis near the entrance to the theatre of Dionysou. Just before you go down the steps, look at the fine art deco building on your right - it was narrowly reprieved in 2007 when the museum was constructed and there was a move to remove the preservation order because it would... more

The new museum is an architectural wonder in itself. Displays of many periods Greek sculpture in a spacious setting. There is a fine restaurant in the museum. The crowds are not overwhelming -- no trip to Athens is complete without it. Even a space the for Elgin marbles, if the Brits would do the right thing! One drawback -- no... more

Newly opened attraction with entrance fee of 1€ until the end of 2009. Beautiful interior space full of fabulous artefacts but...Beware if you are wearing a skir on the upper floors...the glass floor can give an interesting view to those below! The cafe on the second floor has a fabulous view of the acropolis if you can find space in... more

Entrance fee is 1 euro, a great bargain. Fee may go up to 5 euros in Jan 2010. No photography allowed inside the museum, however the view from the second floor outside cafe is great. And you can walk outside and take photos of the Acropolis. Second floor has five of the six Karyatides.(Lovely maidens) The exhibit is down a... more

Wow - one of those places you would visit just to see the building itself never mind its mind-blowing exhibits. Take a moment to watch visitors when they realise they are walking on a glass floor above an exposed ruins even before they go in - priceless! We just turned up in the pouring rain and had no problems getting... more

Enjoyed the New Acropolis Museum after a morning visit to the Acropolis. Couldn't believe the entrance fee was just one euro; maybe that will be increasing in the future? Easy to maneuver, logically organized and evenly spaced, museum's interior rightfully allows the pieces hog the spotlight, view of the Acropolis from the 2nd floor is amazing. The Caryatids were a... more

To me, the outside of the museum is a bit of a disappointment. But, the inside is very, very nice and I liked the way that all of the objects are displayed. As I understand it, the museum is limited to objects found on and perhaps next to the Acropolis. As a result the collection is limited, especially without the... more

As evident from some previous reviews, it is futile to try describing the museum in detail. It is interesting, impressing, and . So the point of this review is simply to encourage you to go. And not because it is so cheap (1 Euro till the end of December 2009). The reason is very simple: Parthenon... more
