Artemis was most informative, good sense of humor while leading our group through street stands, food stores, restaurants and specialty food businesses. We learned what were truly Greek foods, which ones originated from other cultures and became "Greek". She was very organized; all the establishments were ready and prepared for our arrival and tasting. This tour gave us an overview... More

Artemis was a wonderful tour guide. She explained everything with detail and also handled the two little kids in our group very well. (You can imagine how difficult it is to keep a 4- and 2-year old engaged on a tour.) We also tried several things I would not have tried on my own. There was no pressure to buy... More

Why? Because he was the last stop on our food tour and most of the people in our group couldn't eat any more. I had come prepared by not eating breakfast, and I managed to almost eat it all, keeping in mind that I would be walking back to the hotel about 20 minutes away up a hill. Artemis led... More

Artemis led a wonderful tour and managed to squeeze everything in even though we started late, which was my fault. The variety of stops gave a great sampling of Greek fare and we learned the history and cultural meaning behind many of the selections, even purchasing the tastiest items we could bring home with us. There was plenty of food... More

I can't add much that previous reviewers haven't already said. The locations were off the beaten path, we learned a lot about the culture and history of Greece, ate some great food and had the opportunity to pick up a few nice things at local shops (not pushed on us at all, it was nice to get a few little... After visiting way too many ruins, we decided it might be best to experience Athens through our taste buds and booked this tour through Athens Walking Tours.. This was a group tour and our group was so big that they sent two tour guides to make it a better experience. Our guide was Dorina Katsadoraki and she did a marvelous... More

I absolutely loved this tour! Our guide, Artemis, was fun, funny, and incredible knowledgeable about Greek culture and history. All the food was great and I especially loved that we had the opportunity to buy this from the shops that we visited. This was my first time in Greece and I think that this was a perfect tour.

Our Athens food tour began at 845 AM. We walked for over three hours through local markets learning where the best olives are grown, tasting Greek olives, cheeses, pastries, fruit and breads. We learned about exotic ingredients that make Greek meals a feast. It was fun and exciting! Ask for Artemis to guide you on this magical tour.

We had one more day so I suggested a food tour for my son and I. We loved it! So interesting and we enjoyed many different foods and drinks along the way. It was an easy walk, so most anyone could handle it. There were a few sit down places and potty stops along the way. Our guide Artimis was... More

this was the first food tour we had ever done and it was super! What a great way to get an introduction to the local flavors and cuisine. Our guide, Dorina was terrific! She explained history & culture of Greece as She took us to several locations in the Psiri area of Athens which had far more locals than tourists... More

Staying in Omonia

Neighborhood Profile
Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.
