Wow! Easy walk around a small area of Athens to learn something about the food and the history of some of the foods. Despina is engaging, well prepared, articulate, comfortable with who she is, and it's obvious she cares about what she does. For us, this was the highlight of our stay in Athens. We visited 8-10 places where we... More

We had done a food tour in Rome which we loved, and were keen to do another. This one was even better! Our guide, the wonderful and oh so knowledgable Despina, was fantastic. She shared not only food knowledge but culture and history also, and being in such an ancient city, that was appreciated. The places visited were all locally... More

This was a wonderful way to see Athens from a nontourist view and get some needed exercise! The Kostas, our guide, was affable and knowledge. We visited food shops, eateries, a delicatessen and fresh markets. He made us a wonderful Greek salad and gifted us with olives and saffron. Highly recommended for foodies and just to see some of Athens... More

This was a very pleasant tour. Very knowledgeable guide, and the other half dozen walkers were all good company. A particular highlight were the light doughnuts in honey we tried on an early stop. We went to markets and shops - perhaps more shops than we would normally expect on a tour, but at no point did you feel obliged... More

Artemis was a great guide. I learned in 2.5 hours what it would take at least to learn on my own in Athens. I highly recommend taking this tour when you first get to Athens. It'll give you not only an overview to the city, but the food which helps with planning where and what to eat the rest of... More

We had a great time on this tour! Athens was our first stop in a 6 week trip and we set aside a morning to do this tour. It was a ton of fun. You get to see a lot of places that you might not otherwise think to go to, and you get to eat a lot of food.... More

We had such an amazing time visiting a variety of shops and we had ample tastings. Frankly, I could not have consumed any more. The selection of different stops was fascinating from Crete delicacies, to a fish market and spice shop amongst many more. Our guide was very knowledgeable and super enthusiastic. It was also great fun to meet other... More

Great way to get away from the tourists. We tasted lots of foods and got the history to go with them. Dorina answered my Greece questions without me having to even ask. She was great. I definitely recommend!

This is the best tour we have been on. Booked direct and found that all my email queries were very quickly answered in a most informative and friendly way. Customer service is second to none. Tour takes place just beyond the usual tourist areas (Plaka etc.), where the locals buy their food. There was about a dozen of us and... More

Staying in Omonia

Neighborhood Profile
Omonia
Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.
