I really enjoyed my tour with Vivian. Although my family had to cancel due to a delayed flight at the last minute, Vivian still allowed me to go on the tour and they offered a full refund for the remainder of my family, which was incredibly nice! The food was incredible and there was much more food than expected; I... More

This was a lot of fun and definitely very informative. All the food was delicious. Go with an empty stomach, and a bottled water! Ask questions and have fun with your tour guide. It was my birthday the day before and I got to hear the Greek version of "happy birthday". The spice market was a personal favorite spot of... More

We really enjoyed our tour with Dorina. The tour showcases a scrumptious variety of Greek food away from the tourist spots. We enjoyed it so much we chose to revisit many of the places Dorina showed us rather than hang around the souvenir shops when we were back in Athens two weeks later.

Sadly we did this tour on our last day in Athens. We would have eaten much better if we did this first. A three hour tour with lots of food. Don't bother booking a lunch through them as you will be full by the end. The first quarter was a little slow with lots of background information in front of... More

We saw the tour advertised in the Guide Book and thought what a great way to experience getting to know this city and the country. It was also great to have the discount honored in the Guide Book - it was only 2E per person but any savings is always a bonus! Unfortunately we had breakfast before we left. My... More

We arrived just after the No vote and in the middle of the financial crisis. We arrived a little early for our tour and then had to wait for tourists from a cruise (shore tour) so that was a little disappointing. Once that was out of the way however everything went very well. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and... More

My boyfriend and I decided to do this tour to get a more local experience and we weren't dissappointed! We had so much fun trying all the food that was handed to us and learn about the Greek culture. Because food is such an important thing in Greece, it makes sense that we learnt a lot about the people too!... More

Wow! Easy walk around a small area of Athens to learn something about the food and the history of some of the foods. Despina is engaging, well prepared, articulate, comfortable with who she is, and it's obvious she cares about what she does. For us, this was the highlight of our stay in Athens. We visited 8-10 places where we... More

Staying in Omonia

Neighborhood Profile
Omonia
Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.
