Syntagma is located in the center of Athens, close to a number of sights, such as Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the National Garden, Zappeio, Ermou str., Plaka, Monastiraki etc. Easy to reach, full of tourists, provides a nice start for short excursions around Athens!

It has nothing to see, nothing to give, cold, colourless, no elements of greek culture, ancient or modern. Reminded me of Cairo by night. Sad for such historical place.

We only saw it at night on the eve of yet another general strike (October 19,20) and could feel the tension in the air, made more so by the constant police presence and media vehicles.
Other than that, it's a nice square bounded by main roads and beautiful, grand old buildings (expensive hotels), and containing lots of greenery.

Regardless of where you go in Athens, your paths cross Syntagma Square again and again. It's the landmark en route to the Plaka district, it's a major drop-off point for metro and buses, and it's a meeting place for tourists and residents alike. It's also Constitution Square, the site of many rallies, protests, and strikes against government policiies. At one...

between here and Monastariki there lies a market with some great branded and non-branded shopping... and of course good food places.

The changing of the guard ceremony is fun to see. Also, the Syntagma metro station has interesting archeological info. It is worth checking out...

First picture we saw was some tents and many shields of protest all over the square (See pictures) . There were some protestors in the square but we did...

The changing of the guard was the highlight of our visit to Syntagma Square. It looked a bit worn from the protests and squatters, and the numerous banners and protest signs.
There were no actual protests that day - they must have been on strike!

mostly down to the protestors camped out here. The last time we visited was the middle on July. It was all peaceful but there wasn't much to see on the square itself, expect for a speech going on. King George is on the right if you walking down towards the shopping area. The parliment building is on the other end...
