Very interesting, if you get there on the hour you can watch the ancient changing of the guards ritual, very unique

Visit Syntagma for the Hellenic Parliament Building, have a beer in Syntagma Square, (especially after dark near the fountains!) and do not miss the National Gardens, they are amazing, even on a hot day!

It's worth seeing changing of guards every hour. Kids loved it. Photos are a must ! The 400 skirt pleats represent 400 yrs Turkish occupation and red hat is bloodshed, still hand made by professional tailors.

Watched the change of the guard and it was quite impressive and solemn. It is a very elaborate ceremony with fancy foot work that is sure to delight people of any age.

The time spent on in this area by the Tour Organiser is not really worth it , The passing of the Guard at The Wagah Border in Amritsar India was a far better Excercise to watch. This is just a simple change in Guard with the the Leader not really serious even though being watched by at least 200 tourists.

This is the place to view the stunning Parliament building and watch the changing of the guard on the hour, every hour. These soldiers are dressed in traditional costume and wear unusual pompom shoes which weigh 3.5kg each. They conduct a ceremonial changing of the guard ritual which is conducted in front of the grave of the unknown soldier. Certainly... More

The changing of the guards was fine but the square was okay. It wasn't particularly pretty or that different to any other square. The metro was more interesting.

The Greek Parliament is here and you can watch the changing of the guards every hour on the hour, 24/7. There is also a park right across the street and lots of restaurants and shopping. There is also an underground Metro station and the National Gardens are nearby.

Staying in Syntagma

Neighborhood Profile
Syntagma
Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
