We booked a 'markets, ruins, and Ancient Athens' tour with my husband, we were guided by a very knowledgeable, friendly Greek guide, the whole experience was great, I would not hesitate to book with Urban Adventures again.

I did all three and enjoyed every minute. I've taken a lot of tours with very nice, informative guides but none better than Nikita. Urban Tours will be first on my list from now on.

This tour was a fantastic way to "feel" something of Greece. As Nikiti, the tour guide, walked me through various stalls, markets and shops sampling different food chatting along the way I gained such a great appreication for the Greek culture and city. Experienceing the food was great, understanding some of the Greek way of life and attitiues towards food... More

We did both the Ancient Ruins and the Taste of Athens tours. There was some overlap of content but we were the only family so our guide, Nikita, modified the tours. The first tour was very good for orienting ourselves in Athens and very interesting and informative about the ancient history, culture and buildings. The high point of course was the... More

We did two Athens Urban Adventures with Nikita. The Taste of Athens provided a wonderful insight into Greek food and culture, and we really enjoyed meeting with the local store keepers and sampling some of the local produce. A particular highlight was enjoying a meal at the basement old-style Athens restaurant. The following day we did the Walking Athens tour.... More

I did the food tour on my last trip to Athens, and I really enjoyed it. My guide, Nikita, was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about sharing not only Greek cuisine (which you could sample in a restaurant) but also its connection to Greek culture and history. We visited the markets (meat, fish, fruit and vegetable), some specialty shops (sausage, spices,... More

This is my city and I saw it through good times and hard. I now reside in California, but I visit every year alone or as a Tour Manager with a group. Athens is to be seen and experienced not just passing by for one day. I usually stay with my groups 4-5 days and we really walk the city.... More

Staying in Exarchia

Neighborhood Profile
Exarchia
Exarchia is in many ways Athens’ best-kept secret, discovered by relatively few international visitors. Located behind the main University and Polytechnic buildings, it is unsurprisingly home to many students, intellectuals and politicos. This is reflected in the area’s vibrant street art and graffiti, which seems to cover almost every inch of wall space. Some of the best Athenian tavernas are located here, as well as its most alternative bars and underground music venues. You'll find political bookshops and quirky stores here, yet it is also a neighborhood inhabited by families and older folk. On Saturdays, punks and grandmothers alike head for Kallidromiou Street, nestled below Strefi Hill, to pick up fresh produce at the traditional laiki agora (street market).
