we arrived at our hotel at midnight, and I emailed through to 'Athens by bike' about 2am just hoping we could squeeze in. Lucky us our email was received and we were the only ones on the tour this hot Athens day. Kostas was great. It was a great way to get your bearings of the sites of Athens. Bikes... More

We loved our bike tour. Our guide, Kostas, was very knowledgeable and fun! He was also accommodating to tailor the tour to our wishes. Bikes were good.

We only had one full day in Athens so this was a perfect way to kick off our morning. The biking itself was easy enough, the sights/routes were great and Kostas proved to be an entertaining and knowledgable guide. The small group setting definitely beats out a chaos of the hop on-hop off buses for a more personal and enjoyable... More

Our tour guide Vaggelis was great and Manos, the owner of Athens by Bike was on our tour as well. The are both great guys and super nice! This tour is a great way to see Athens and Vaggelis is a wealth of information. The coffee break (included) is nice as well, especially in the summer when the days are... More

We took the tour offered by Athens by bike and we loved it. The guides are very kind, well prepared, funny and enthusiastic. They guided us to several parts of the city showing us a number of very interesting archaeological, architectural, cultural and entertaining spots. I would gladly recommend it to anyone!

We had a great bike ride with Koutas! He was very personable, knowledgeable about the history of Greece, and very interested in making sure we were happy. We stopped at a cafe and was served a delicious pound cake with iced coffee. It was a great way to learn about the Acropolis before actually climbing it. I would highly recommend... More

The tour guide was extremely informative and friendly. We moved at a steady, relaxed pace through Athens and finished with a wonderful sense of what Athens had to offer. His advice on areas to visit that weren't 'touristy' was very helpful.

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighborhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
