This was a wonderful display of dancers in real authentic costumes from different areas and regions in Greece. The great thing about this show is that it is affordable, (15 euros a person ). My husband and I were going to go to a restaurant that advertised a Greek evening of food and dance, but instead we went to a... More

Today I took my kids to see this Folklore Show (Which I've seen twice before), but for some reason the show was completely different from what I've seen before and not the show that I wanted my kids to see. Turns out that instead of the "Usual" show, they had some sort of award presentation to 4 different traditional dance... More

This is one of Athens' long-standing offerings of excellent folklore music and dancing - with awesome costumes on the dozens of dancers. The troupe has been around since the 1950s and remains of the nicest things you can do while visiting Greece.

In an old theater, outside it is a 1:30 hour of great dance spectacle with traditionnal folklore of main part of thee country. Not too long with nice orchestra and singer. The costumes are very nice. Even kids like it. A must have if you stay in Athens few days. No need to book earlier as there're some room.

Attended the Bollywood festival on 20 June 2014. The venue and the shows were very nice and excellent value for money.

The Dora Stratou Theatre is the Alpha and Omega regarding to traditional Greek dance. Please note: if the performance is cancelled due to rain, take your tickets to the box office and ask them to validate them for another day so you can return to see the performance without paying again.

We visited Dora Stratou in June while visiting Athens and we very impressed with the show. I note a couple of other reviews mention an inappropriate skit. Well they must have changed the show because we saw nothing like that and would have no hesitation taking children along. The night we visited there were a few showers around and the... More

I have visited Athens 6 times but only managed to fit in a visit to the Dora Stratou Theatre this year. It was a very worthwhilst experience with traditional music and dancing from villages and islands all over Greece. The costumes and dancing was superb and the music sung and played with great passion. It was a nice experience to... More

I visited the Dora Stratou Greek Dances Theater on Thursday 18 July with my young children (all under 10 years old), my mother-in-law and husband. There were only approximately 100 persons in the 800+ theater (50 of whom were members of the Greek military who I believe were given free passes) and we were able to get seats in the... More

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighborhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
