Walk next to the river

There's a lot of beautiful views along the river. Take a walk along the river and enjoy the view, drink a beer and wine, and also make a cruise through the river. It's wonderful!

Well worth taking a boat tour from the Gaia side of the river - under the 6 bridges of Porto. Being ON the river gives a different perspective of the steepness of the river bank and the density of the development along both sides of the river. We were welcomed aboard in English - but that was the end of... More

Short but well worth it if only to contextualise Porto slightly and enjoy the river. Ours was part of a ticket that included a hop hop off bus and cellar tour- use yellow buses with reservation!

This river has a great river walk, as well as many boat rides that can be taken. The outdoor cafes are amazing and the choices in food are great at that. The outdoor shopping on the weekend was such a fun and peaceful experience. Very historic and beautiful.

... http://wp.me/p5Lw9a-6B ... Unlike many Europe cities, Porto is hilly. Although it doesn’t has a spectacular harbor view from the peak like Hong Kong, it has a double-deck iron bridges that spans the Duoro River. Standing on the hundred-year-old Dom Luis I bridge I could view seagulls soaring freely over the body of water, and layers and layers of houses... More

We wanted to do a boat trip on the Duoro and bought tickets for the six bridges tour as advertised along the Ribeira, as we weren't after lunch or anything and didn't want to be out all day. It was only €12.50 for 50 minutes up and down the river - nothing special but on a warm sunny day it's... More

Sitting at dusk watching the city lights come on is a fairytale site, just like a post card. A fascinating city perched high up above the river.

One of my favorite days in Portugal was our day trip to the Douro Valley. It's an absolute must. I can't say that we did it the right way because we drove a car there and had more than a few family spats trying to read the maps, negotiating the roundabouts and then driving the hairpin turns down to Pinhoa.... Take a boat up the river for a day, much better than the 6 bridges boats. It's a long day out, but well worth it.

We took the train upriver to Pinhao since it was much cheaper than any of the boat tours (60 Euros for 3 people with return). It was fantastic to sit and have wine, bread and cheese while viewing the river going by. Highly recommended for budget travelers1
