When in porto, taking a river cruise in river Douro allows you to get a diferente and colorful view of the city. Not expensive and you can track down the grapes of Port wine up the river to Régua.

If you're headed for the Duoro Valley, don't miss Covela vineyards (even in winter season). It's hard to find, but impossible to forget. It boasts breath-taking vistas, a long and honorable pedigree, new owners, a terrific backstory, exceptional food and somehow ... even better wines. We were two couples heading east from Porto along the Douro during the first week... More

I'm not sure what to write since a river is a river... but the Douro is interesting in its connection (or rather, its historical fundamental role in shaping the port wine and olive oil industry in the Douro region). You can take river tours (which I didn't do) but it is very walkable on both the Gaia and the Porto... More

We took the river tour with the red boats and were terribly disappointed. There was no personal audio guide so we could only get commentary through a loud speaker. Because the boat was crowded and people were talking we didn't hear much at all. The boat goes down river almost to the sea and then back upriver. I am sure... More

All great sites and Port Wine houses are located along the river. And they provide convenient river cruises.

Driving to and along the Douro River was quite special. Terraced hillsides as far as the eye can see. Wonderful tastings for those not driving. But mostly just so incredibly beautiful. The roads are narrow and traffic could be an issue in the summer, but off season it is a treat.

Taking a break from the Yellow Bus - walked along the River Douro. Although the day was overcast, bit rainy - the walk riverside should be a requirement during days in Porto! The architecture riverside is stellar to see close-up. There are amazing apartments (checked out one penthouse apartment overlooking the river!) that one would be lucky to own:) Post... More
