feels a bit mad reviewing a river, but I suppose there are attractive and less attractive ones, this being certainly in the former group. apart from the obvious river trips (I can recommend Manos do Douro with smaller boats, and a bit of talk but not too much of it - go in the morning when it's quieter), you can... This is a beautiful river cutting through the city. It is well worth a boat ride as you can see many beautiful things.

We took a six days cruise on the "Amavista" river ship and had a great time. Many vineyards to see and wine to taste. The sight are outstanding. We also saw many castles. Very interesting trip. Very clean river and you do go by 3 locks which are gigantic.

All Porto is very hilly, be prepared to walk miles to get the best from your visit - we probably walked about 8 miles a day.

done the 50 minutes river cruise, didn't enjoy it at all, it felt like a normal trip on the river, it should have a guide on board telling you about the 7 bridges, boring.....

We have been on other cruises with Viking, which all were first class. Excellent service, cleanliness of the vessels also excellent. This could not be said for the Viking Hemming. Also, we spent more time on coaches going to places that were shut, than we did cruising. When you pay for a five star holiday, you do not expect a... More

We enjoyed two separate boat trips on the Douro. The first was on a trip that started in Pinhao that took us up stream and showed us the vineyards of the area. The second showed us the bridges of Porto. They were very different trips but helped us appreciate the full beauty of the river.

we had already seen and visited both sides of the river from every angle and on our last day decided to take a boat tour for one last look at the city. The boat tour of the bridges is well worth it. The tour is about 50 minutes - beautiful views of Porto and Gaia. We also did a boat... More

We took the 50min tour called '6 bridges'. It is a very interesting trip, it is nice to see the city from other perspective. If you want to take some good pictures make sure you that you enter the boat as one of the first and book good sits in front of the boat. It gets really crowded. What is... More

The river upstream from Regua is very beautiful and well worth a visit. Regua itself is extremely unattractive with hideous high rise development despite its location at the gateway to a World Heritage site. Pinhao has an attractive quay and is a good base for visiting the vineyards by boat or car. The train from Regua to Pinhao is rather... More
