Be sure to get to the Centro Historici before noon to listen to the bells in the church at the big square. Just fantastic. Then just stroll around, but take the street where there are no tourist and see how people live and how cats contemplate you, have a refreshment in a local bar, and stroll on.

We love it here, and it is a great place to meet locals and experience history. It can get very busy during the day, but some of the food is wonderful, at night there are less people, but some can stay up late talking and enjoying the atmosphere.

Lots to see. Very medieval feel (even though many of building are in reality a bit later). Plenty of street cafes. Clearly geared to tourists but on a Friday in mid June we found it very crowd free. With a couple of decent museums as well as the castle and Duc's palace there is enough for a whole day visit.... More

I had been in Guimaraes some 15 years ago and the difference is huge. Now, the center is very well recovered and preserved and most of the buildings and streets are a feast to your eyes. It's not that big but it is very nice to stroll around.

Lovely historic city, with its small streets, very nice old buildings. Almost everything is renovated, in very good shape. You can walk around, little squares, nice restaurants.

It is not very big, the citycenter of Guimaraes...but it is beautiful! Lots of little squares, lots of places to sit down and have your glass of vinho verde. And nice pastries too!

This is a lovely old city with plenty to see and do over the course of a day. Don't miss the Castle, Palace, Church Museum, squares, old lanes and cable car.

The old city was delightful. Not tourist, but some trinket shops. A living, breathing town of locals
