This was the first portuguese city and the center is very well preserved. I think there was a big festival and all the city was very well cared.

It is a small lovely center in Guimaraes. It combines important history - Here Portugal was born together with lively cafes and small nice streets. The entire city center is very nice and well kept.

Such a nice small historic town. So worth to visit the castle where the King used to live just nearby the centre and to be seated at one small cafe having a fresh drink like a portuguese sangria and relax... The small streets are really wonderful to walk by and to make some shopping.

A small beautiful place, old town. Relaxing walk, viewing the so well preserved houses and well-kept place all over for the benefit and pleasure of visitors. Sit at a small cafe, have a sangaria and enjoy life.

We have visited this city at +/- 19h. It was really nice to see the sun set on the castle and to walk around in the historical center. We had dinner at one of the nice, busy squares. We had an extra surprise, as there was an open air cinema, a procession and fireworks that evening. This twon has a... More

I loved the small streets and the squares, but it is swarmed with tourists. It reminded me of Germany somehow

Great old charm - narrow streets, pretty buildings and lots of cafes and restaurants at very reasonable prices. Olive Square particularly beautiful.

I did enjoy the trip to this city as it has some unique old churches, old and beautiful palace and a castle of the 11th century. The central part of the city is nice - does not have that feeling of poverty as in other cities in Portugal where almost half of the buildings in the central part are long... More

We were staying in Vizela a few miles away but visited Guimaraes twice as it was such an accessible city to get to and get around. The first day we parked on the street at a meter for a short visit but enjoyed the atmosphere and sites so much we went back the next day spend all day there. This... More
