The Se is a must-see in Braga. Reported to be the oldest cathedral in Portugal (begun in 1070), the cathedral still offers glimpses of the original eletant Romanesque structure, as well as appealing Gothic portals and the ever-present and captivating Manueline filigree (according to the guidebook, the towers and roof are by Joao de Castilho, who later designed the spectacular... Our tour guide was a 14 year old girl that not only new her stuff, but at 14 she was able to explain it all in English. As a teacher, I was in awe of this young lady. I learned so much. It was neat to see the tombs of the parents of the first king of Portugal.

Well worth seeing, right at the center of the most picturesque and historic part of Braga. The oldest cathedral in Portugal, burial site of the parents of Portugal's first king.

The church interior is beautiful but Portugal has many churches that in my opinion are in the same category. My partner was more enthusiastic because her research says this is one of the best churches in Portugal to visit. We drove around and around but eventually found a parking spot three blocks away. When we got to the actual church... More

this SE is wonderful, dark and serene. But best of all is the area of the church with the relics. Boxes of beatified bones beckon!

We were here recently during a road trip through Braga and had read about the Cathedral. We arrived Sunday morning, probably not the best time to be a tourist in a big church. But we were blown away by the pomp and circumstance. There were medieval guards in full regalia escorting people to pews. The organ music was wonderful -... More

Braga is the city of churches, and the Sé is the ex libris. Very old, it's the subject of a portuguese phrase to emphasize age, stating that something or someone is "older than the Sé of Braga". Since it is surrounded by buildings, you may not notice that you are near the Sé until you're standing right in front of... More
