It is, indeed, the place where you'll find more people hanging around, but you'll only need one minute to find out why! Between old and new you'll find anything in here, between old architecture, churches, restaurants, shops, you name it!

If you are visiting Braga and looking for historical architecture you should definitely stop by the "Praça da Republica". This is right in the middle of Braga, near other historical monuments, coffe shops, stores, etc. It is enjoyable during all the year. During the summer it is pleasant to have a coffee, drink or ice cream at night. During the... More

This central market square is very much worth spending some time: stroll around, sit down and have a coffee while watching the people passing by... The fountain (if she works) is a very nice touch to this square, which is illuminated at night.

It's easy to gravitate to this lovely square with its bustling cafes and nearby shops. A good spot for a coffee break, lunch or dinner; fun to relax here and just watch the tourists and locals passing by. Walking distance to many of Braga's famous churches, museums and historic sites.

If I was to live anywhere in Portugal, it would be in Braga. Though it is often derided in tourist guides as ‘over-religious’ & ‘buttoned-up’ we did not find it so at all. It has a great balance of commerce, tourist sights and religious places. And it’s very friendly. The centre of town is the Placa da Republica from which... More

This is the main square of Viana do Costelo, which is a good place to have a coffee in a couple of cafe's. We went to Caravela, recommended by my guide book and now by myself for it's excellent pastries.

As you stroll toward the square from the station, you will pass through a nice monumental archway gate onto the pedestrian streets that are lined with wonderful shops that are mostly for the locals. People are relaxed and friendly and the square is large and long with many pretty buildings, fountains and sculpture along the way. A MacDonalds is in... More

Spent an evening and Saturday morning here and found the place intriguing. Obviously a source of pride to the city-dwellers - much of the new development here in Braga is not so good. Despite the weather the street artists entertained and brightened a bleak weather day.

Interesting architecture. This spot and nearby streets are nice place for a walk and small shoping. There is a few good confectioneries where you can have a cup a coffee and piece of cake.

The plaza is a large, open area with restaurants and shopping surrounding it. From the plaza you have a lovely view of the large fountain, the Avenida da Liberdade which is filled with shops and cafes, and the parkway along Avenida Central. The tourism information center for Braga is also on one corner of the plaza. For Semana Santa, the... More
