What a bizarre resting place for the last Hapsburg emperor! Lovely little church with a fascinating history. Great views and lovely ambiance.

We went up on the cable car and then walked up the steep steps to the church. The steps and entrance were beautifully decorated with the plastic flower wires they use in festivals and it looked amazing. The church was lovely and the vuews over funchal stunning. Well worth a visit.

When we visited the steps leading up to the church were decorated with colourful ribbons of many colours. I'm not sure if this is usual or for were there for a festival. It made a decorative entrance to this small but important church. For historians it is also the final resting place for Charles I of Austria, the last Emperor... More

The place is just another church nothing that special, you have the steep hills to go down with the basket which I do not recommend. I assume if you are a religious person could be interesting but to me it was just another church. regards,

We made our way up the stairs to this small yet attractive church. It was full of flowers including a beautiful heart shaped display above the high altar making us wonder if they were preparing for a wedding. Definitely worth a quick visit whilst in the small town of Monte.

If you take the trip to Monte then you must visit this church. Although small it's interior is a delight and you have the chance to climb to the roof to get a eye popping view of the bay lying below.

Whilst visiting Monte Palace Tropical Gardens, we thought we'd visit the church atop the hill as it's so close. It is quite imposing (as are the steps) and has an attractive symmetry. The view from the terrace is splendid, but the view from the roof - down to Funchal and the sea - is very impressive! For those of a... More

Superb little church. The steps are a bit steep for those less able. Highly recommend a visit, I would return.
