The orchid garden is a well treated garden. We were probably a bit early on the year to see all the orchids be in bloom. Our next visit will be at the end of May or in June.

we have dicovered orchids during the past year, so this visit was greatly anticipated. However, the whole air of the place is neglected: signing is poor, the plants are crowded, and the wonder of orchids are not explained (only 1 even had a name). It seems that many visits are in organised groups with expert guides, but individuals like ourselves...

This is a small garden which initially looks like someone's back garden but the amount and variation of plants that have been packed in here is tremendous. It is well signed from the Botanic Garden and liquid refreshents are available as well as some plants for sale. One of the highlights of our trip
Quite easy reach fm the centre(bus No.31),stop close to the cable station. Were dissapointed, when entered this garden,as all garden looks not well-groomed and poor in colours, although in description written about 50000 of plants. We are not impressed by variety of plants there and total square of the garden is very small, even by-pass with other visitors of it.On the way back, take the taxi...

Interesting variety of unusual and usual orchids in all shapes, sizes and colours, grown in jungle style settings indoors with an outside terrace area to enjoy coffee and cake 3,50€ pp and views across Funchal and the harbour. Take the bus no 28 or 29 from town.
This garden is quite a way down hill from the Botanical gardens, I really don't think it is worth the visit at the moment. It is a bit scruffy and I am sure there are more orchids to be seen in the flower market. I think 5 euros is a bit steep compared to the 4 euros for the Botanical...

We visited in early December and were surprised...

Maybe it was the time of year, barely any colour in November, very dark inside, damp and cold! Wear a raincoat as narrow walkways between dripping plants!
