your guide books will say that the jardim da orchid is 200 mts below the cable car to the botanical gardens, but what they mean is below the bottom of the botanical gardens, which is far more than 200mts in size. We walked downhill for ages and finally asked in a shop and were told at least another ten minutes... More

We have done many tours but visiting the Pregetter’s Orchid Gardens was one of the most interesting we have achieved. It was informative, enlightening and what the presenter didn’t know about Orchids and wild life plants wasn’t worth knowing. He was passionate about his guided tour and was prepared to spend as much time as you want walking around the... More

Our visit last August to this wonderful natural setting of all varieties and sizes of orchids in a rustic natural setting was well worth time and money. Casually walking through the walkways through the "house" was very interesting and the artistic original displays were beautiful. A very worthwhile stop for all who love orchids as well as great views of... More

Even visiting in February was good. Walking around the orchid houses surrounded by orchids and other lush plants was fun and there are some beautiful orchids and other plants to be seen.

We were recommended by our hotel to go to this orchid house. It is linked to the Botanical gardens in Madeira. On arriving, we thought it was just a house with some garden but quickly realised that there was enclosure after enclosure. Even in December it was lovely. A great find and well worth going if you like orchids. The... More

A bus ride and then a walk of 15-20 minutes, some of it up and down steep stretches of road, mean a taxi is the best way to get there unless you are fit. It is worth the effort, though, as you can see a huge variety of orchids in something like their natural setting. Great coffee and cake, except... More

An out of the way place which you will need a taxi to get there, the place is for real orchid enthusiasts, I think! The place looks run down, very little signage and the little cafe is a tip. A 5 euro entrance fee for what? I think this place has seen better days. Avoid.

A taxi is a must to get here, but when you do, it's a wonderland of the unusual and exotic. It's not a manicured showpiece but plants as they live but the wonder in each specimen is a delight. The added bonus is they sell plants and seed for the intrepid grower. Also do internet orders which is a bonus... More

We went by taxi and I would advise this as we would ever have found it, and it is up a steep hill. It isn't the largest of places but there are a great number of orchids, all beautiful and many other plants ferns etc. There is a basic cafe serving coffee, milkshakes, and cakes. The coffee is not the... More

The are many varieties of orchids, but the garden is not well-tended and very small. We went around twice in 1 hour. Everything looks old and is falling apart. Not worth 5 EUR entrance fee and bus ride. Unless you are real orchid enthusiast, do not go there.
