We got a one way ticket up to Monte on the cable car. We paid €30 for the two person toboggan ride and it was great fun. The 2km went very quickly and there was still about 5-7 km left to Funchal. There is a line of taxis waiting at the end of the toboggan run and they charged €18... More

Great fun! you go faster than expected (as seen on videos) and the hills are quite steep. The runners are oiled on the way day so not even a bumpy ride, a must when visiting Funchal

Just buy a one way ticket on the cable car (€10/person v €15/person return ticket). Then when you've finished the toboggan ride, just walk down into Funchal.
