I heard about this and since we hadn't spent much money (hiking holiday) we decided to give it a go. You sit in a wooden sledge at the top of the hill and two men drag it down a steep hill (a normal village road with traffic!!) and when it gets enough momentum they leap on the back and guide... Great toboggan ride 2 km all down hill, scream all the way down, great fun & not bad value @ 30€ for 2 persons. Only one problem that was a real rip off !! The taxi ride back up ! 20€ what a Con, @ the reason for the expensive taxi ride was that it's up hill. Bah bah

When we read about a toboggan sled ride where there is no snow, we didn't know what to expect, but boy are we glad we did it. Sitting in a sleigh-like cart with runners, two men push and guided us down the hill. At times we were going quite fast and the two guides rode on the real of the... More

It's a unique experience for sure but at a price of 15€ pp it's an expensive five minutes. We had the advantage of a little bit of rain which makes for a faster downhill. When it's completely dry the ride would probably not be all that exciting either.

This is well worth a try and is not what we expected. It is amazing how these are able to be controlled by human power. As you are going down photographs are taken which can be bought at the end.

It's of those things you will probably never do again so it was nice to go on this tradition. The price does seem a little steep at 30 euro for 2 people but they didn't seem very busy so I guess they need to make their money. It was fun and felt quiet fast, even my fiancé who didn't want... More

Not as quick as I would have imagined and liked, however for some of our party it was quick enough, if not too quick. Great bunch of friendly staff and enjoyed the 5 minute ride back down the hill. Once you get off, taxi's are plentiful and if you are keen on walking, it is only a 15 minute walk... More

The Tobbogan ride is one of these things you can't avoid doing - and it's actually pretty nice. About 150 years ago it started out as the first means of "public transportation" down the steep slope of Monte, nowadays it's one of the main tourist attractions of Funchal. The 6 minute ride takes you through some nice, winding streets with... More

It had to be done and was very good fun, but would I do it again? Not if I was paying for it unless I had an alternative means of getting back to town lined up... Basically it's about 6km back into Funchal from the start of the toboggan run, they bring you about 2km down the mountain (30 euros... More
