We enjoyed two half day levada walks with this company learning about the movement of water and agriculture on this island. As ever the enjoyment of this sort of activity depends on the knowledge and enthusiasm of the guide. We preferred the day we spent with an English only speaking guide as we got more information compared with the day... More

While staying in Madeira, we wanted to do one or two leisure walks through the mountains and “levadas” (channels leading water from the springs in the top of the mountains to irrigate the farms bellow) and we chose this company because it was the one with the most interesting leaflet and I’m sure we couldn’t have done better. We did... More

Although my wife and I have visited Madeira every year for the last eight or so, and enjoy walking, we had never been on a Levada walk. The primary reason has been my reduced mobility due to arthritic knees. Now, 18 months after having both knees replaced we decided to give it a try and go on one of the... More

We spent a day with our guide Angelo exploring the north of the island. We were expecting some hairy moments driving wise, which we had but at no time did we feel unsafe. This is an excellent way of seeing parts that buses and cars cannot access. We were lucky to have a very clear day and as we climbed higher... More

We have walked with Madeira Explorers during four holidays on the island and have enjoyed all our walks. They collect you from your hotel and ensure that you are in a group with a guide who speaks your language or at least one you can understand. The walks we have done have all been in the easy category and have... More

I completed two of their Levada walks: Rabacal - A nice walk - but one which I suspect is always busy. It was certainly very crowded on some sections. However, we did have an excellent guide - I was impressed by her knowledge of the local flora. 'Hidden Corners' - Again a nice walk - very flat. We were supposed... More

we enjoyed the mountain walk with Nelson, our guide, even though for the most part we were in the clouds. his attitude to group safety was excellent, especially where some of the paths had recently fallen away and great care was needed. we really enjoyed the walk and he was very knowledgeable about the fauna and flora, and spoke 4... A half day walk from Paradise Valley, was a fascinating insight into not only the local flora and fauna, but also the history of Madeira. The guide, Alvaro, was great. We can thoroughly recommend any walk where Alvaro is the guide.

We have just finished the walk to Serra D'Água. The bus came 10 minutes later than it was booked. We started our walk around 10 and finished it at 12.00. So all together the walk itself took 2h and not 2,5h. After the walk the whole group was taken to a cafe for "coffee and a cake" which made the whole... More

I would definitely recommend this company. We did 2 walks with them, the 25 Fontes and The Lakes Of Madeira led by Adriano and Alvarro respectively. Safety of their clients was a priority and both were very knowledgable about the Madeiras flora, ecology and the history of the levadas. They lead walks 5 days a week but were still completely...
