we love our island and love to show and give you the real Madeira! The Up Mountain Madeira tours started in the beginning of 2012 , taking our visitors as friends that want to see and try Madeira, far away from the tourist crowds and boring, soulless tours and trafic tourist convoys. Our tours are always done by a certified guide, by foot or in an open classic UMM jeep, all done in a very calm safe and relaxed way. we have our shared jeep regular tours, with max 7 persons and also can tailor out your tour, for you and your party, focusing what you love the most, so if you think you got what it's needed, and brave enough to leave your cosy sofa, to really live Madeira, take a ride with us. discover the real traditional places, markets and people. Madeira is famous for its exuberant nature and its fantastic climate, but also for its people hospitality..and we know that Madeira has so much to offer and best is hiking trails, paths and levadas by foot or by jeep.No Crowds, No Rush, small groups, great adventures! we are a certified and bounded tourism animation company by the Portuguese government under license 118/M/2011 and all our activities are covered and insured

Attended a full-day jeep "safari" going through western part of Madeira. We had the most friendly and laid-back guide/driver Miguel, who took very good care of us, told us generously interesting facts about Madeiran life and took us to non-touristy places for lunch and poncha. I think this activity is a good option if you only have little time or... More

We went on a full day tour of the west and east with Miguel, who is an incredible guide and a true ambassador to his island home! We booked early to ensure we could take these tours as these were the best tour options we had found in Madeira. There were only two of us and they need four people... More

Excellent discover of Madeira island with a very nice guide explaining as much as he can about the island. We just regretted we did not took 1 day instead of 1/2 day. The 4by4 is amazing, and the views are fantastic. I recommand it to anyone !

We went on a full day tour of the east with Miguel, who was an excellent guide from the get go. Arranging the tour was easily done by email, and there were five of us in the group. The weather was not in our favour and we had to miss going up Pico de Arieiro, but Miguel did all he... More

We took a transAtlantic cruise and our first stop was Funchal,Maderia. I was not looking forward to coming hear as I thougt the cruise was just giving us a break from the sea. I ended up loving this island. It's so peaceful. We took a jeep ride thru UpMountainMaderia and it was the best ride. I was worried it would... More

I found UMM through a travel friend. Nicolau and I spoke through email a few times and setup our dates. He met us promptly outside the ship and we started our day. I wish i could say where he took us, but all i remember is the west side part of the island. We did the 4 hour tour. We... More

My friend and I (single females, late 20s) went on the full-day West Coast jeep tour with Nicolau and had an amazing and memorable time - it was one of the highlights of our trip! Minimum 4 ppl were needed for a group tour, but Nicolau kept in touch with me and let a fun couple join our tour (otherwise... More

Although it rained on our trip it didn't in any way spoil our adventure. Myself and my 3 daughters 31, 25 and 23 thoroughly enjoyed our trip. Nicolau was an excellent guide and took us to places we would never have seen and we loved the poncha it was superb . We felt like we made a friend and will... More

We have been twice now, once with Miguel and once with Nicolau, and we have loved both times; we feel we have two friends rather than someone to travel with. You get taken to places you would never dream of going, or if you did would never find. Lunch is in little local establishments which again you would drive past... More

Nicolau is very knowledgeable on local agriculture, viticulture and flora, as well as accepting the challenge of driving some of the steepest roads I've ever been on. On the vineyards half day tour the off road part of the trip is worth the price alone! You are encouraged to stand in the back of the jeep, providing a unique view... More
