This is the best place to see orchids in Madeira. Beware, though, September is a bad time to visit - very few in flower. Fortunately we remembered our previous visit in March 2013 when all the plants were in bloom. The 'gardener' is and expert and freely dispenses his advice.

What a nice surprise to find this Garden so close to our hotel. A lovely walk through the gardens at points looking over the wall to the sea and BIG cruise ships coming in for overnight stays. Lovely

If you love orchids well worth a visit only 4.50 euro,s to go in. Spent a lot of time with one of the staff who just loved his job and could not have been more helpful. Cafe in main garden nice cup of tea and a piece of cake for 1.50 euro's.

This is a place that is all about orchids, it has a vast, fascinating and beautiful collection very much worth seeing. The facility is private and took a serious beating during the storms of 2012 and the owners are clearly challenged to rebuild it; and yet their love of orchids is obvious, this collection is trully superb. The conservatory is... More

The place was run down and many of the orchids neglected. There were no explanations about any of the orchids and certainly no guides present. Not worth the entrance fee.

This was probably my favourite place in Madeira. Easy walk from my hotel, beautiful orchids, great morning tea with a view in the garden, very informative gardener and best of all: hardly any tourists. Don't miss it!

My wife and I found this place by accident as we took a walk into the hills of Funchal. It's a bit of a trek to get there on foot so I would recommend getting a bus or a taxi. We were welcomed by the gentleman who runs the gardens and he was very informative and friendly, giving some history... More

We visited here last week and were made very welcome by Patrick the owner's son despite it being a Sunday the only day the orchard farm was closed. He spent quite a bit of time with us pointing out specimens of special interest although we found the whole experience well worth a visit, the orchards are fantastic in shape size... More

After a steep climb uphill from the market in Funchal, we finally found Boa Vista. It is a lovely location overlooking the town, quite high up. It took us about 20/25 mins from the market. You can get a bus up ( I think it is no 31). We are not orchid experts, but they are beautiful , and we... More

A visit to this orchid garden is thoroughly recommended. We were there in January and saw a difference in the orchids in March this year. We enjoy the walk to the garden but if you don't like hills take the bus or a taxi. Before leaving, tea and home made cake, overlooking a panorama view of Funchal, is very tempting!
