We visited the gardens after travelling up in the cable car, the gardens were very attractive and worth a visit be aware as they are quite steep and the need to be careful if it has been wet. Also if there are several cruise ships in the electric vehicles often run out of power and they have to resort to... More

This is a nice garden, but do not be confused: it is NOT the Botanical Gardens. Situated at the end of the first cable car, you may be confused into thinking these are the BG - but they are further away, with another cable car.

These peaceful and unusual, gardens are reachable either by cable car - in itself a great journey - by taxi or bus. Once there you can wander around enjoying the tranquility for quite a long time. Interesting wall tiles telling the history of Portugal. Oriental areas and pool. Small cafe, so you could spend several hours there. To return to funchal... More

give yourself a good time, these gardens are huge. You have three choices, go from Funchal, pay about 25 euro return for a cable car to Monte, a cable car back down to the gardens, or drive to Monte, and pay 16 euro return to get the cable car to the gardens, or drive to the gardens directly, and pay... Easiest way to get there is by cable car which stops at the entrance. To return to the town you have options - cable car, walking down steep hills or the wicker toboggan. The gardens are well set out with many different areas. Be prepared for many changes in levels but then in Madeira you expect that! Small cafe which... More

Beautiful gardens to wander around. Like everywhere else in Madeira it is very hilly but has well defined paths. Take the cable car up from town which stops just outside the entrance.

The gardens are extensive and have a wide variety of plants, trees and blooms. A bank of 'Bird of Paradise' flower is a delight to see whilst the range of orchids and their colours are beautiful. There is a large and attractive pool in Venetian style, whilst the terrace at the front of the mansion gives superb views over to... More

My wife and I visit here at least once whenever we are in Madeira. Personally I prefer it to the Botanic Gardens. The Guide books say allow an hour and a half but we are here for a full half day at least. It's hilly and some paths are rough but if you're a keen gardener or plantsman a visit... More
