A beautiful garden! You need some hours here! Bring a camera and good shoes. Much flowers and sculptures.

An essential place for inclusion on your itinerary. Vast areas of tropical trees and plants, interspersed with tiled pictures showing history of Portugal, intriguing oriental-style structures all reached by narrow winding paths and steps. Refreshment place (if you are lucky enough to trip over it), museum of african carvings and great views of Funchal. Sadly, the palace is closed. A... More

Definitely worth a visit. Not for the less mobile as lots of slopes and steps. Little cafe in the middle with a free sample of Madeira wine.

Interesting place, lots of greenery and pleasant paths. In a place like this you'll find that Madeira is an island of eternal spring!

A very nice place to visit. The African/Zimbabwe exhibition is amazing. The contrast of colours and the view from Monte Palace is well worth the visit. We used the cable cars to get to Monte and the view over Funchal is amazing!

Stunning nature, beautiful botanic gardens, excellent panoramic view over Funchal, but a little too steep when you need to climb back to the entrance.

It would be easy to overlook these delightful gardens, as everyone talks about the Botanic ones, however these are a delight, particularly the Japanese area. The views are terrific and yes, the pathways are quite steep, but certainly not uncomfortably so for this pair of 60+s. Even in November there was still plenty of interest and to see. We really... Bought a package for 48 euros for 2 which was cable car return and entry to the garden. It really is a great garden but beware you need to be reasonably fit as it a long way to the bottom and one hell of a climb back up so leave plenty of time and take a few rests.
