A lovely day out in Monte. The gardens are beautiful and a relaxing place to spend some hours walking and enjoying the gardens and scenery. Easy to get to on the cable car from Funchal.

Other than the ponds, I just don't see what there is to rave about with these gardens. It probably looks better in the summer, though if you're looking forward to a great display of flowers and plant life, don't bother in the winter months. At 10 euros per head, it's not worth the time, effort or cost either to get... More

It`s a big area full of bushes and blooming winter flowers. I was in December and really enjoy walking between them. You can spend hours here. There are two small museums, restaurant , fish pond and a lot of places to take a photo. Very relaxing !

In my opinion the tropical gardens are a better visit than the Botanical Gardens which are reached by a second cable car ride but it is purely a personal view. The entrance is immediately across the road from the cable car station. Be aware that it is all down hill and a long climb back up through the gardens. I... More

Beautiful tranquil gardens. Very enjoyable although we didn't visit when in the flower season. We spent four hours there. The paths are very steep but manageable.

Preeminent example of how to create a stunning garden on a hillside. One of the best gardens we have visited of this type outside Japan. Wear walking boots or trainers as parts are very steep. Would love to go back in another season,

Who would have expected amongst other garden features to see a superb collection of rock crystals beautifully exhibited.
