A well-laid out garden on a hill-side so don't expect too easy a walk. Many sections of different themes and a few museum rooms showing African sculpture and gems / minerals when we visited. Good water features and very dense vegetation. I would guess that the flowers and colours would be even better in the late spring. Worth the visit.... More

Excellent location, nice cable car ride to get there. Japanese garden the best. Lots of up and downhill walking bit the option of a ride back for one euro.

I wish this was my house and garden's I'd love to.live here.It is probably the best place to see so much art mixed in with flowers and archticture. The journey up to Monte in the cable car and the wicker basket down make this a great day out. Don't forget to check out the little town square and cafes at... More

What a wonderful place to while away a few hours especially on a very hot day as it is very shaded and cool. It has a splendid selection of plants and trees and is very well laid out. The walk back up to the cable car was steep but as long as you talk your time it is fine. We... More

the size and variety of vistas. The little cafe was fun and seemed to be tucked away so very quiet. The basket ride back is a must do.

This is a must see place on Madeira. The first visit to Monte was by cable car, got to be done. The views from the Cable Car are great. Even though the main season was over there were still many different flowers and the walks around the gardens were fantastic. There is a little terrace cafe which is a great... More

We don't usually like gardens but were struck by how wonderful this attraction was, well planned out and looked after, a must for garden enthusiasts and brillianty situated at the top of the mountain.

Here you can admire a magnificent vegetation, composed of plants from all over the world, and there are about a hundred thousand plant species. Sculptures and tiles from palaces, churches, chapels and private homes all over the country, are other attractions that this area also has two oriental gardens.

As my wife, and I had previously used the cable car, we decided to take the 48 bus up to Monte. This proved to be eventful with the bus moving up through the mountains quickly, with me and the mrs white knuckled. Great fun. Also the gardens are beautiful.

We are not the most garden-minded people, but even we spend around 2 hours, including a café stop, exploring the garden. The garden is on a mountain slope so you have to ascent/descent quite a lot. There is a golf car service in the garden but it does a very limited tour around the garden. The cable car is the... More
