Well, if you are visiting Funchal you really should include a visit here on your itinerary! Very easy access from the town via either the cable car or catch a local bus. Need to allow at least half a day to look all around, and could take a leisurely whole day, especially if the weather is good, and just browse... More

varied landscapes, superb views, interesting sculptures. we spent nearly a whole day but you could easily do it all in half a day. The food was a bit limited but nice enough for lunch on the terrace with fantastic views

I have visited dozens of gardens and this is a top one. Spent half a day there. Please bring your hiking shoes as the terrain is steep.

Beautiful gardens set on all different leves, the Japanese garden is beautiful. In January displays of orchids abound. Views over Funchal are delightful.

Beautiful, well looked after and a wide variety of flowers, trees and tropical plants. A huge variety of bird species which is commendable, but such a shame they were caged so tightly! Would be better if they had more space.
