Went first thing in the morning before it got busy and had a nice view from the cable car on the way up. Tropical gardens very nice but the paths are steep and in some areas are slippy! Comfortable shoes are needed! All in all nice place to visit and you can watch the toboggans going down the hill (... More

Loved it - great views and plants too. Great but do be aware of the very steep hills if you are not able to manage these.

Great way to spend an afternoon, a photo opportunity around every corner. We found the trip up to these gardens in the cable car also something not to be missed. The only down side is the gardens cafe which did not seem to really fit in with the whole experience.

Beautiful place to visit. Had fun with the statues along the walkway. Nice little café for lunch with sandwiches. Big collection of African art and of minerals.

An amazing place to visit, you need a good few hours to really enjoy this garden. Getting there is fun as there is a cable car ride to the top of the Monte plus a pretty church and then a toboggan ride down the Funchal if yoy feeling btave

The Tropical Gardens in Monte offers a unique mixture of Japanese/Chinese gardens which is bizarre to find in Madeira. It is a huge place to wander around with lots of steps, running water, waterfalls and much more. Its like a secret garden of a film set. Great for any age group although comfy shoes a must. Its definately a day... More

Though these gardens get less publicity than the Botanical Gardens, they are much more extensive and fun to explore. The children particularly enjoyed the Oriental gardens which provided a multitude of photo opportunities. There were plenty of places to rest in the shade, which was welcome given the steep slopes the gardens are built on. It is worth purchasing this... More
