Wonderful gardens. Visit the gem museum as it is remarkable. Take a picnic and enjoy the views. There is a cafe where the coffee is good but not much choice of food.

You can have a really good day out here but, be warned, if you aren't as agile as you used to be, ask about grabbing a seat on the small buggies that go around. This attraction is terraced into the steep hillside of Monte with views over Funchal. There is a cable car from Funchal sea front, the option of... More

The peaceful feel as you went round and it felt loved by the original collector. Did not like the cafe as it was not worthy of the surroundings

Nice gardens and museum but be warned it's quite a steep walk at times so you need to be reasonably fit and have good walking shoes

It is several years since we visited these gardens and although I remembered enjoying them I had forgotten what a wonderful place this is. Truly delightful and so unexpected. The tropical areas, the Japanese gardens and the fish, plus the exhibitions of precious stones and African art. You could spend hours there especially if you took a book and lingered... More

Great area to visit when even if it''s raining. Nice atmosphere with it's cobbled paths and streets. Great gardens with exotic plants. If you can get the No.28 bus from the Lido area. A white knuckle ride on a bus! Lovely area to visit.
