There aren't many Victorian gardens left in the world. But the Quinta do Palheiro gardens is one of them. The Victorians' passion for symmetrical flower beds and neat little boundary hedges - allied here with the Portuguese love of box and lavender - is given full rein. The most beautiful garden on the island! We walked around for hours spending most of our time looking at the fantastic array of camellias. Since our last visit a Rose Garden has been created which is looking fantastic and full of exciting looking roses. A must see for any visitor to Madeira. more
