The outside of the church, although covered by scaffolds, but gorgeous. we were more than disappointed to discover that it is closed for restoration as we had gone out of our way to drive here and then to find the church on confusing city streets. It would definitely be worth a visit once the work is complete. Check before you... More

It was under restoration, so I couldn't visit the inside. I have enjoyed looking at it …. it has something unique.

Amazed by this Manueline church full of Azulejos and twisted columns. Site where was authenticated the Treaty of Tordesillas 1494. We were given information about history and symbolism of the Church by very helpful assistant.

Take the lift from the main street to access the remains of the convent which is worth a quick visit. There are exhibitions housed at the rear, which are interesting.

In fact we didn´t see the Convento but only the church, and this is a very simple and nice church with three naves and columns in Arrabida stone. The Convento de Jesus itself seems to be close for some works and according the notice from 2006 only for 60 days...

Setubal is usually known for its seafood and charming fishing marinas - however there are also some imposing historical monuments. The Convento de Jesus is definitely worth a visit. Its spiral pillars are quite unique and the baptism area with a side for girls and the other for boys is something I had never seen before!
