Knowing that Portugal is a poor country, we don't expect each historical structure to be in the best condition. That being said, what we most appreciated about Queluz was that every single item in each room was marked on a diagram. OK, maybe I tried too hard to fit Queluz in my busy schedule and the effort didn't pay off. Or maybe the Rough Guide to Portugal overestimated it, calling it "splendid". Either way, Queluz disappoints. The low, pink walls scorched by the sun and smoked with pollution surround a decrepit palace and its neglected gardens. The interior is rather shabby... more
