Givenbreviews, I was not expecting much. But the modern art collection was very good, covering a number of developmental periods. Amongst the pieces you can even spot occasional Picasso and Pollock. A very nice exhibit of consumer advertising from the UK. Best of all it is free and worth a visit.

This contemporary collection has an uninterrupted line of most important stars (e.g. Piet Mondrian, Andy Warhol, Joseph Kosuth) and lesser-known artists (pl.: Lajos Kassak, Tamas St. Auby). The temporary exhibition focused on so called found objects grouped by imagined functions. Rooms of the modern building are air conditioned. There are some little Japanese style gardens. Museum is located close to... More

Wow, how can this be free? Beautiful building and fascinating art. Do not try to get a drink in the cafe, horrible service.

I absolutely loved this gallery. Great collection of british (20th artists including Hockney, Blake, Moore which surprised me. Beautiful purpose built modern space with terrace looking towards Targus to sit out and eat pizza or sushi at lunchtime!!

An incredible building, housing many art facets (music venues as well as the modern art area). Several good choices for places to eat or relax. The art collection is wildly varied in its quality of representation of the many 20th century styles......it is a pleasure to see the full range but some artist's examples are atypical and surprising. Definitely worth... More

A terrible selection with very few remarkable works of the artists represented. If this was not enough, the way they are exhibited is quite poor I believe, with little pedagogical value. You may want to check it out if you have plenty of time and nothing else to do while in Lisbon, but as someone who has visited pretty much... More

If you are in Belem, it is worth visiting this museum. They have a large collection of modern art, that is displayed in chronological order. Each room will have a different style/art movement, so its nice to see how art developed. There is a portugese and english explanation for every movement. There's also temporary collection, which are also free to... More

Museu Berardo is located in Centro Cultural de Belém and has an excellent collection of modern and contemporary art, including avant-garde artists such as Marcel Duchamp, Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol, etc. The museum has a permanent collection and also temporary exhibitions. The shop is also great, lots of art books, magazines and catalogs.

While in Belem, if you like or can appreciate art, do not miss the Barardo. It is bigger than it looks, so give yourself at least 2 hours. The collection spans from Rothko to Warhol. It is one of the top 50 most visited contemporary art museums in the world.

Just brilliant! Temporary exhibitions suit all ages. Fantastic bright, airy lay out and variety. We loved the art, the photography, and the weird stuff too... sourced from artists worldwide. Close to the National Archaeology museum and opposite the riverside Padrão dos Descobrimentos statue fronted by a floor map of Portuguese explorer global domination!
