Set aside a good part of the day to see all of these amazing gardens. They range over terraces taking in a huge area with some lovely planting and design. A good cafe is in the middle of the gardens for that essential rest break.

Such a pity that it's not a popular destination!!!! I think this place ( garden) and the Ajuda Palace should be included in all Lisbon city tours!!! Btw, there is a Lisbon City Tours company that we used for our excursions around the city! And they were very accommodating in regards to places that we wanted to visit! The Garden... More

This place was well worth the 2 euros. The time I went the museum wasn't open, but I preferred to sit outside under the palm trees anyhow. They have a butterfly house, with plenty of gorgeous plants, flowers and trees to sit under and relax. Very peaceful experience, highly recommend if you like to be at one with nature.

Towards evening we entered the Italian-style gardens,at the end of a hot day, where it was a true respite from the busy Belem's noisy suburb,as well. The pink wrought iron gates are hard to miss. The park has a lovely plan, easy to amble through with a 400 year old dragon tree.and a flamboyant 18th century fountain fastooned with serpents, dragons, winged fish and... More

After a long queue under the sun for Jeronimos Monastery Cathedral, we discovered a hidden tropical park, just at the corner. Well maintained, with different birds all around (peacock, capercaillie, etc.) and tropical plants, including coffee!

I was quite disappointed. This could be a true gem...but it looks terrible. I cannot understand why this place is in this condition. Clean it up, let it shine again!

This garden is beautiful! Tucked away in Belém (not the Jardim Botanico Da Universidade De Lisboa in Rua da Escola Politecnica) near the Pastéis de Belém, really worth a walk whilst you enjoy your recently bought creamy custard tarts. Amazing palm tree boulevard and a careful selection of tropical and warm climate growing plants. This institution, like many other botanical/educational... More

Please observe that Lisboa have two botanic garden. On (tropical) in Belem and one close to the city center in Lisboa. Some of the comments below are from Belem and som from the city center. We saw both and enjoyed the Belem best. There you can lay in the grass and observe different wild animals passing close by.

This botanical garden was a major disappointment. It was unkept, uninteresting and even the butterfly-house that was recommended only had 2 (!!!!!) visible butterflies in it.

A nice little walk around the plants and trees, looks a bit unkempt but I think they are going for the more wild look than flowers and beauty. Only place in Lisbon we saw a cat. Lots of scouts running round wild! Worth the couple of euros for a relaxing walk. Hilly though.
