Going to the botanical garden was not planned, but as we walked by it looked interesting. I am so glad we explored it! The garden is a gorgeous and tranquil place! The admission price is very low, so I was surprised by how nice it was. It is a great place to escape to, and it refreshed us to continue... More

We wondered to these botanical gardens by accident and decided to go in. It was very nice and quiet despite the fact it was November and had been raining almost the entire day. The resident peacocks were the highlight together with the orienatlly styled Macau garden.

A little run down maybe but this garden has a slightly magical hidden quality. Only two Euros admission, this is quite a compact gardens that due to the recent fiscal crunch has been a little neglected. Neverthless, well laid out and informative, the flora of Portugal's erstwhile empire is well represented. A lovely spot to have a stroll and halt... More

This Botanical Garden thankfully doesn't cost too much as it is on the simple side. The highlight in my opinion (save the huge downed tree) is the butterfly garden. As I went on a cold day, the butterflies were rather inactivity but this made for some beautiful photos on them calmly sitting on the trees and plants. Go for a... More

We like wandering around gardens but found these a bit shabby, neglected, maybe it was the time of year. It was certainly cool under the trees as it was a very hot day, but just didn't do anything for us.

I spent a happy couple of hours here. It's nothing fancy, just a beautiful garden in a beautiful city. It costs a couple of euros to get in, so most tourists give it a miss, which suits me as it means it's wuiet. If you like gardens, go. If you want bling, don't bother.

It was a really quiet peaceful place. There was a real shortage of water features...or rather water features with actual water in them. The tropical plants had the ability to take you even further abroad than Portugal.

A lovely little paradise in the heart of Lisbon. Don't expect too much and you will be pleasantly surprised - the trees are ancient. Some of the areas are closed, and it was ashame that some of the water features lacked water....it hasn't changed much since my last visit 11 years ago - and that was good :)

We are really hard to please and this was without question one of the highlights of our 3 day trip to Lisbon. We're in our 30s and love gardens/culture/design and these did not disappoint. Costs 2 Euro each to get in (bargain) and we were probably there for 3 hours. Amazing tropical plants from Portugal's ex colonies (and examples of... More

To start - the Tropical Botanic Gardens are in Belem, just behind the famous Pasteis de Nata cafe, just yards from Jeronimos monastery. These are NOT the Botanic Gardens to the west of the Avenida Liberdade. Visiting the gardens in August 2014 was an underwhelming experience compared with visiting in May 2008 for two main reasons: 1) There simply aren't... More
