This is an outstanding building standing high above the city. Certainly worth a visit, although it can get very busy.

Do visit this cathedral as the ceiling is worth checking out. Good - We decided to embark on a tour based on a trip advisor review. We may have taken a wrong tour and ended up at the cathedral. The sight itself is really beautiful. There are a number of small chapels inside and the art work is really impressive.... More

If you love old, medieval churches, you won't be disappointed by this one. Must say that it gets very crowded by the tourists. If you can, avoid the weekends.

We usually visit Lisbon every year and never miss visiting the Lisbon Cathedral. Had a lot of work done over the last few years due to a major fire, you can still see the scorch marks on some of the interior fixtures

Passed it at night so it was closed but looked magnificent in the night lights. The area around it is amazing, with little gift shops and restaurants, some even do Fado in the evenings for free.

The cathedral itself is a relatively small medieval church, with some sculptures and carvings. But the most impressive part are the cloisters (where you need to pay to enter). The medieval atmosphere is fantastic, and there is an excavation of roman remains underway too.

Plain Cathedral but hidden delights in the upper-level Treasury. Worth a couple of Euros to see the excavations in the Cloisters.

You want to get there before the crowds and the buses arrive. If you get there even earlier, you can enter for free, though you will be unable to climb the interior tower. I highly recommend that you get there as early as you can because they let people off by the boss load and it is pure chaos.

There is an archaeological dig going on in the cathedral which was interesting, if there are people about when you visit. Check times for opening of Treasury and Cloisters. Cloisters were beautiful and worth seeing unfortunately treasury was closed when we visited. There were no leaflets or history of the cathedral available which was a shame, so take a guide... More

As you may not know, the moors conquered the so called "Lusitania" region in 8th century and stayed there until the 12th century, when were expelled by D. Afonso Henriques, the founder and first king of Portugal. Lisbon's Cathedral has been there since the very beginning of the Portuguese Kingdom - at the 12th century - and was built on... More
