You want to get there before the crowds and the buses arrive. If you get there even earlier, you can enter for free, though you will be unable to climb the interior tower. I highly recommend that you get there as early as you can because they let people off by the boss load and it is pure chaos.

There is an archaeological dig going on in the cathedral which was interesting, if there are people about when you visit. Check times for opening of Treasury and Cloisters. Cloisters were beautiful and worth seeing unfortunately treasury was closed when we visited. There were no leaflets or history of the cathedral available which was a shame, so take a guide... More

As you may not know, the moors conquered the so called "Lusitania" region in 8th century and stayed there until the 12th century, when were expelled by D. Afonso Henriques, the founder and first king of Portugal. Lisbon's Cathedral has been there since the very beginning of the Portuguese Kingdom - at the 12th century - and was built on... More

But perhaps more so are the trams going up & down outside. Free, but you pay for the cloisters visit.

Walked up to Se which was a good way of keeping fit, but of course you could take the tram, etc. The cathedral is free, but you pay for the cloister and treasury. The cloister was very atmospheric the day we were there as the heavens opened and it poured with rain and thunder rolled over. The treasury is up... More

This is worth a visit if only for the view and the people watching. There are some interesting exhibits and take a seat near the front. Be careful stepping in as the large doors are not open.

The Cathedral and the entire Old Town are excellent places to visit. We spent an afternoon walking the streets and had a wonderful visit.

The cathedral is a mix of Romanesque and Gothic architecture. Entrance is free but you pay 4euros to look round the cloisters and Treasury. Make sure you admire the intricate rose window.
