It's worth the stop when you are in the area. I always enjoy visiting churches because It gives you a chance to take in the serenity and also view religious art and artifacts from the 17th and 18th century.

Visited Lisbon last year on a cruise ship on an open top bus. We spotted this cathedral but did not have time to visit. This time upon leaving the ship we walked straight here (about 30 minutes from the port). There was no queue and it was free to get in. It was so beautiful. We were surprised that Vasco... More

I felt blessed just walking into this beautiful church and I had to visit it twice. Then going down into the crypt to see the relic of St. Anthony, I was just awed. Be warned that the crypt area is very small and I am unsure if people were just overeager or a little rude, but be patient when you... More

Really worth popping in and sitting for a while to rest and take in the striking interior. A very tranquil and beautiful place.

To visit Lisboa in June is a special time. The city is in party to celebrate Santo Antonio, the city saint. Please get lost in the streets of Alfama and expect a lot of color, sardines and music.

I have waited so long to visit the birthplace of St Anthony and I wasn't disappointed. A beautiful church, really beautiful.....quiet, serene and peaceful. The little crypt which is accessed via some little winding stairs is truly incredible, visited by the Pope John Paul. There is a tiny gift shop where you can purchase small items of religious interest/value. Don't... More

That church is full of tranquility and there is something special in this city where Saint Anthony was born. The visit to the crypt is free and very moving.
