This is a nice museum, in particular for fans of naval craft and well kept by the Portuguese Navy. It also makes an attractive surrounding in the Belém area, right next to the Jerónimos monastery and in front of the Centro Cultural de Belém, making also an interesting conjunction with the Planetarium (can be visited separately). However, one should beware... More

The "Museu de Marinha"- the Maritime Museum Lisbon, is actually in Belem, part of Greater Lisbon. The museum has a permant display of a vast slection of commercial, military, leisure and royal navigation items, ranging from small models of traditional fishing vessels to the magnificent life-size royal barges. The entrance, like for most of the Portoguese museum is, on Sundays, free... More

This museum occupies the west wing of the Hieronymites Monastery (Mosteiro dos Jeronimos)... in reality is not that bad but I've seen better ones in other places... maybe just a matter of point of view..... the collection includes not only ships but some planes too. More

This is a large museum of seafaring and naval history. It's worthwhile visiting for anyone who is interested in these subjects, as you gain an insight into Portugal's rich history as a seafaring nation. There are a wide range of displays in an expansive exhibition. To be fair, this is a specialty museum- hence, if this is not an interest... More

Despite the important role which Portugal played in the golden Age of Discovery, this museum sadly does not live up to that significance. It neither organises the exhibition according to theme or functional knowledge which some other maritime museums do. It fails to convey the history of Portugal's seafaring tradition. Instead, the museum focuses on how the seafaring vessels have... More

Full of meticulously detailed model boats, artwork of ship battles, suits of armor, statues and other maritime bric-a-brac, it's definitely worth a visit if you're interested in naval history or you just like boats. More
