Definitely take the time to explore this avenue, great little cafés and bakeries. There are several restaurants as well, reminds me of la rambla in Barcelona without trees.

This large open square on the banks of the River Tagus has a number of cafe's around it's edge with a large imposing statue in it's centre and is very well worth seeing for it's architecture alone.

Lisbon was our last port of call on a P and O cruise. On our way in,we went under the Tagus Bridge and because the bridge is made of metalwork,it enables ships passengers,to see the underside of any cars going over the bridge, and also hear a strange buzzing noise as it passes under. At the end of the bridge is a vast... I stumbled across this big pocket of an open planned brilliant white stoned floor which magnificently reflected the sun’s rays right back at me. Walking through Alfama, this area is located on the straight road that runs by the harbour and what a gem it is. The huge square (Patio da Gale) has a centre piece with a tall statue... More

We were returning to Lisbon for a two day rest before returning home after walking the Camino de Santiago, and walked to the Praça do Comércio. Wonderful shops, cafes, monuments, not to mention the gate ! It was raining the day we went there, but not to worry, there were college initiations going on with singing and upper classmen dressed... We had a brilliant time walking along the Praca do Comercio down to the waterfront. My one complaint is that the food offerings in this area during the day are way too touristy and not in the least bit authentic Portuguese. The waterfront area is brilliant and buzzing, as is the very impressive Santa Justa lift, which is just totally... More

About a 15 minute walk from the train station, this area is great to walk around and do some shopping.

Good place to people watch and rest your feet. I can imagine it will be heaving in Summer. The walk down from to here from Heritage Avenida is lovely with all the shops and etc.

Arrived in Lisbon by cruise ship in December 2013. I had organised my tours via cruising excursions and there were some passengers from our ship and two other ships. Towards the end of the tour we realised that we would be able to walk back to the ship and walked through this area and saw their modern Christmas trees. For... More
