This is a lovely square in the heart of Lisbon and I would say it would be a really nice area to hang out for a while but as others have mentioned the amount of people selling cheap tat or offering drugs gets very very tiresome very quickly. Even if you're walking around for 5 minutes you are constantly hounded... More

the square is pretty enough and a great starting point for exploring the city. Rossio station is well worth a visit though. The thing that annoyed my partner and I (both 20 year olds) was that we were offered drugs three times during the day (we must have passed the square around 4 times during our trip) and 7 at... More

A noteworthy and very elegant square, paved with the traditional Portuguese black and white cobblestones widely seen everywhere around the city, two beautiful Baroque style fountains and an imposing bronze statue of Dom Pedro IV, former king of Portugal and first emperor of Brazil. This square is a crossroads and magnet for tourist and Lisboners alike, always full of life.... More

We spent a fortnight in an apartment 100m away, overlooking Rossio Square and so passed through several times a day. We found it generally very pleasant. We were never approached about drugs - though that may be because we are pensioners. Beggars were a slight problem - but the situation is no worse than elsewhere in Lisbon. We were initially... More

Yes this is an impressive square full of culture and history, but, being asked for money by beggars and being pestered to purchase drugs or to buy sunglasses is not my idea of a relaxing afternoon in the sun. This place wasn't for me.

Very accessible due to the metro and train stations around the corner, this square is quite possibly the most important in Lisbon. You can go either way from here and find something interesting. Towards the river there is "Baixa" and Praca do Comercio, the huge (and more beautiful) square facing the river. on one side there is Chiado on the... More

Really liked this square, open and surrounded by cafes and shops which had a real buzz about the area. As said before the drug dealers that hang about here and on Rua Augusta make wanting to spend more time here avoidable. I was looking forward to relaxing in the evening here but decided against it. I did complain to the... More

Liked the square, walked through it several times a day as we were staying nearby. Every single time we walked through we were offered drugs which really spoiled the atmosphere. The police should be cracking down on this they were doing it so openly. Just to the side of the square is another square (Figueira ) where there are ginghna... More
