The heart of the city.

A beautiful, central square with cafes, cobbles, fountains and at times most of the population, it seems. Great for photography.

Praca do Rossio is a central park from which to explore Lisbon. We stayed at a hotel on a corner of the park and there were many shops and restaurants located within short walking distance. Musicians played all day at the park, making it a lively atmosphere.

Earlier this was the place of bull-fights and executions, later on the starting point for demonstrations. They rebuilt it after the big earthquake int he 18. century. There ar two beautiful bronze fountains, imported from France. In the middle the column of IV. Pedro.

Great square in the middle of Lisbon. It was our first look at the city, so I was impressed immediately. Felt a lot like the Senado Square in Macao. one thing to watch out for - guys approaching you to buy drugs. There are a lot of them around the squares.

People, small shops, restaurants, bars, more shops, and cofee bars, music in the streets (probably some fados mixtured with arab or Indian music, yellow tramways, steep strets to the Chiado, and now and then, magnificient views over the river and the Atlantic Ocean. it merits a long stroll .

This seems to me the down town of Lisbon, it is a good starting point although you will find yourself going to this area a lot during your itinerary to visit other places.

So much to see around Rossio Square, very convenient to start from here and walk to other attractions. When we went there, people were setting up cute little tents for the Portuguese/Spanish cultural festival and it was nice to see.

We pass through here daily coming down from Bairro Alto. There's so much going on currently a fair for the past 3 days selling fresh bread and meats and other things and hand crafts. Beautiful little square with two fountains and lots of people

It'd be a nice place to relax (in one bar they do beers by the litre) but in the hour and a quarter that we were sat on the terrace, we were pestered 7 times by people either trying to sell drugs, begging or playing music for money.
