When I planned to spend some time in the Baixa/downtown section of Lisbon, I knew it would be touristy: crowded, maybe over-priced, possibly over-run by tour groups and aggravating. But you know what? We passed through Baixa on our way to other sections of the city several times and each time enjoyed walking through the squares and up and down... More

To sum up Lisbon in one word would be disappointing. It must have been a classical beauty in its time, but now is in need of a good scrubbing. It is somewhat derelict and graffiti is everwhere. Waiters hassle you in the streets to try to get you to eat at their establishments and they charge for all little extras... More

Old buildings, nice restaurants, interesting shops for all budgets. To visit both during the day and the evening. PS. Avoid the turistic restaurants... they can be boring..

The Baixa is full to the brim with life. The streets filled with pedestrians, the sidewalks lined with all the wonders of the world. Best of all there is not a scrap of rubbish on the ground. All the people we encountered were kind, gracious and helpful. The restaurants were numerous and varied, making a decision very difficult. Many outdoor... More

I love the architecture, and how we can walk through Rua Augusta in the direction of the river. It's a huge shopping centre with some good restaurants and close to historical theatres as well as between some interesting traditional quarters.

This is the place where many major events of the Portuguese history took place, and it is here that we find things we don't find anywhere else in Lisbon - such as street musicians, living statues, excentric people and the like.

Just a great place to visit and savour some history. The city is a gem for history. Watch out for restaurant prices here it can be costly!

A must see part of Lisbon, with lots of tourists, shops, and restaurants. There are a few special things, such as the tower with the elevator to Chiado.

Expensive. Desertification by excessive number of banks. A few years ago it was the commercial heart of Lisbon. Efforts are being made to return it to the old splendor. During nighttime it is somehow desert and one must be aware regarding robbery.
