I liked this castle but as we were travelling with my father in law perhaps walking up was not the best idea.The castle is a bit tricky for those with walking difficulties but the views are delicious. We got the tram down to Liberty Square? The one with Rossi Metro station, tram and bus stops. We should have got it...

There is a bus service up to the Castelo but we decided to walk up from near the Sé (Cathedral) - it's a heck of a climb but well worth it! Tickets for the Castelo are €7 - expect to queue at the ticket office as there are only two tills. The entrance to the Castelo is another small climb...

We took the train to get to the Castle and this in itself was fun as the streets are very narrow and twisting. The walk round the Castle walls (there is not much left of the castle unfortunately) was pleasant as were the gardens around it and the views of Lisbon were stunning.

Wonderful experience, worth the 7eu entry fee for the views alone regardless of the castles historical value. Walk around the perimetre and take in the views from all directions across the Lisbon city, broader region, water areas etc. Well worth it.

If you're a castle buff, this one doesn't really have much, just the main walls and a ruined interior.
