The Castle is visible from far away since it's located on the top of the highest hill in town, so it's really tempting to go and check it out. When you get inside, most of the Castle is fenced off and required purchasing a ticket to get in. Frankly, this is not the most interesting castle to see. It's basically... More

The walk to this site is already an effort. Not too hard but it should take about half and hour climbing stairs and uphill. Perhaps the view of the city as you go up can be a reward. Be prepared for the way there beforehand (e.g. mark the way on your smart phone), as the signs are quite few and... More

I was sceptical first, especially when I heard that I had to line up for getting a ticket. But the view of the city from the castel is absolutely worth it. You can easily wander around for an hour or even two. Don't miss this spot if you are visiting the city. I recommend going there in the morning or... More

As others have mentioned, there aren't really any information signs, but the views of the city are amazing. We went there late afternoon - although there was quite a long queue, we didn't have to wait long to get our tickets and the castle area didn't feel crowded. 8.50€ isn't exactly cheap, but I would say it was definitely worth... Firstly the walk to the castle should be enough to put you off (steep hills in 30• heat). Secondly it completely lacks information signs, meaning you are wandering aimlessly looking at the same view, amazing as it is, over and over. It is redeemed slightly with its museum (which handily has signage), although it is very small.

My husband was dying to see this castle in the late afternoon/early evening to take in the sunset, so we trekked our way up (by trolley and foot). It shows my dedication to him (and sightseeing), because we did this at the end of a LONG sightseeing day when it was at least 90 F outside and I was almost... More

Visited the castle in August 2014 together with my girl friend. The walk towards to the castle is quite steep, you might wanna take the tram. The castle itself is a little dissapointment. Of course there are the great views of the city and the pie cocks are impressive but the castle it self lacks information signs.

Of all things I've seen in Lisbon, this was the one that stood out the most. Stunning views of the old city and rooftops and a really great walk around the walls (slightly reminiscent of the Dubrovnik castle in this way) - really enjoyed the visit! Suppose the only downside is the queue but even at peak time it's not... More

If you want to get an overview of Lisbon and see a beautifully restored castle, the St. George's Castle is the right place to go to. It is busy (30 min + waiting in the ticket queue) but once inside the crowds disperse and you can explore around the area and the castle itself in peace and quiet. The gardens... More

Don't do this in the beginning of your city-trip. Do this at the end. When you see this, you can really imagine the greatness this country has been in the 15th-16th century. Stunning 360° view over this metropole of discoveries. Here at this Miradouro, you can fall in love with this city of light, joy, sadness and grandeur.
