We had a great scenic trip on the tram up to the castle vicinity. Kids loved the cannons spread all along the castle walls with great views over the different regions of Lisbon and across the Tejo. Very scenic and enjoyable walking up towers and along walls. Archaeology exhibit (Nucleo) interesting artefacts. Archaeological dig not as interesting - not much... More

For us the view of the city was worth the admission. Not much more to the castle other than well preserved walls. Reccommend getting there early, around 10 to beat the rush. Taxi is a great way to get there is you cannot get tram 28.

t is very nice to walk on the walls of the castle and admire from all over Lisbon. Breathing history through the trenches , slits and guard towers . Around the area of the restaurant and bar there is a community of peacocks which safely pass under the tables and, how sparrows or pigeons do, they feed on the crumbs... More

Took the Street Tram up to the Alfama and wondered upon the castle. It is was early morning so no crowds and felt the place was only for me. Upon reaching the castle entrance, there is a nice terrace which have great views overlooking Lisbon. The interior contains the old Walls of the Palace which have stairs to the top... More

This castle was the one thing in Lisbon that I really wanted to do. And it was good, but not as good as it could/should be. It's in such good repair, if it had a proper guidebook, audio tour or signs depicting castle life, it would be 100% better. It has none of those.n You're just left to the walls... More

On the moment, seven of us from our group of 27 decided to leave our group behind and take the E1.80 bus from Figueiro Square to Castelo de Sao Jorge. I'm glad we did! In addition to the often mentioned great city views, visiting the castle and vicinity takes you into neighborhoods and mixes you with locals and tourists. After... More

Not much to see on the inside of the castle walls, but you are free to walk on the walls themselves, as well as around the perimeter. A few cafe's on site, nice to relax on a sunny day with a beverage. Amazing views of the city no matter where you are on the castle grounds. Peacocks roam the castle... More

Definitely worth the hike up (there's also the tram, but they were way too full). Nice place to walk around and enjoy the view. The museum is small, and not that interesting.
