Visited the castle in August 2014 together with my girl friend. The walk towards to the castle is quite steep, you might wanna take the tram. The castle itself is a little dissapointment. Of course there are the great views of the city and the pie cocks are impressive but the castle it self lacks information signs.

Of all things I've seen in Lisbon, this was the one that stood out the most. Stunning views of the old city and rooftops and a really great walk around the walls (slightly reminiscent of the Dubrovnik castle in this way) - really enjoyed the visit! Suppose the only downside is the queue but even at peak time it's not... More

If you want to get an overview of Lisbon and see a beautifully restored castle, the St. George's Castle is the right place to go to. It is busy (30 min + waiting in the ticket queue) but once inside the crowds disperse and you can explore around the area and the castle itself in peace and quiet. The gardens... More

Don't do this in the beginning of your city-trip. Do this at the end. When you see this, you can really imagine the greatness this country has been in the 15th-16th century. Stunning 360° view over this metropole of discoveries. Here at this Miradouro, you can fall in love with this city of light, joy, sadness and grandeur.

I will suggest to arrive early in the morning so you can travel alone on the tram 28 and not being in the line for ages in order to buy the tickets. Lisbona is really beautiful but full of tourist, the good thing is that everybody wake up late. I have been visiting on saturday at 9am, it was quite,... More

As soon as I entered the site, it started raining. Luckily for me, Lisbon is absolutely beautiful in the rain and the view from Castelo de São Jorge is stunning. I found a semi-dry nook under an arch for refuge from the rain and watched the flags of Portugal and Lisbon blustered defiantly, as if battling the wind for control... More

This castle - or military fort in my opinion has some very interesting history and some fantastic views of the architecture and surrounding landscape. We took the train from Cascais (40 min) and walked to the castle - it was easy to find. You can get some really good pictures overlooking lisbon and the river. We then did a tram... More

Maybe the best attraction of Lisbon. when you visit a Castle, you will for sure imagine being at war like you did when you were a kid first, walk on the outside part of the fortification and enjoy the view on the harbor and Targus river next to the old canons and imagine how you would destroy any enemy boat... If you have seen one castle, you have seen them all. But this place is also with spectaculair views, its nice in the shadow with a little wind to chill in your Lisboa trip. Dont bother about the line at the ticketoffice, this one goes fast, it wont take long!

We took the old Tram no. 12 from Praca da Figueira, a nice way to get to the castle through the Mouraria and Alfama neighborhoods. After that we had to climb quite a steep street to the entrance. The main atraction at the castle (most of it parts of buildings and ruins, and also some archeological excavations) is the beautiful... More
