It's uphill into Barrio Alto from Lisbon centre (Baixa), but completely worth the effort. Great choice of bars, restaurants, and clubs, if you aren't an old fogey like me. You can also cheat and get the tram/funicular for 3.60 Euros - if you are a wimp or have a heart condition!

Wandering the streets soaking up the atmosphere and sampling The cafés and Tapas bars in this area was interesting and exciting.! This area comes alive at night and it was fantastic to sit outside sip Some good wine listen to the music and feel part of this city!

I stayed at a hostel in Bairro Alto when visiting Lisbon. There are great restaurantes with portuguese food. There are also lots of stores for shopping and the nightlife is great.

Definitely this is the place for night life. Very lively over the weekend at night, lots and lots of charming little bars with great atmosphere, practically one after the other. Some nice places for dinner too.

The area is famous for its nightlife - daytime visit is less enjoyable. Yet traditional local funicular offer fun for these hours too.

This typical district of Lisbon has life all day long. The small roads and the commercial areas mixed with the bars and restaurants make it appealing for the visitor. Go and take your time as it's worth to be digested slowly.

Interesting part of Lisabon. Small streets, restaurants on every corner or few meters. Safe to walk in the evening
