great experience to go out. unique in europe with hundreds of people standing in the small streets through bairro at night with an uncountable number of bars and restaurants. Various places with live music as well and different bars for every taste and across the price span! Perfect place to start a long night or just to have a few... More

We loved this area, filled with little shops, narrow streets and local colour. My husband bought 2 hats from a great family owned and run hat shop - they took endless trouble to help please, and spoke many languages too. Interesting antique shops and clothing boutiques too. More

The Bairro Alto has a wealth of bars and restaurants and many of them are pretty decent, the place as a whole has a rather shabby feel however which detracted a little from its charm. The caipirinhas served in many of the bars are tasty, moreish and generally reasonably priced however and we did have a very entertaining few nights... More
