Catia is the beautiful face of Portugal as a whole. Despite she had a problem at the very beginning of the day, she gave us all the options to sort it out. She's even offered us a transportation to the airport since we had a very little time. Catia is from Sintra and she took us there despite the very... More

Catia was just wonderful in so many ways - from the minute I reached out to her, she was flexible and open to creating an itinerary specific to me. We drove the coast, we toured Lisbon, we ate well - she knew the ins and outs for all the "must do and sees" in the short amount of time I... More

I called Catia yesterday morning on the back of positive Trip reviews and I was looking for a guide to take us to Sintra from Lisbon. Even though she was guiding in the morning, she took me, wife and 7 year old for a very enjoyable excursion to Pena Palace in Sintra and onwards to the West coast and then... More

There were 4 of us visiting Lisbon for the first time, and we found Catia's tour(s) to be incredibly entertaining, informative and FUN! We learned so much about the city, the neighborhoods, the architecture, the history and the government that we wouldn't have learned in any tour book or standard tour. Catia incorporates useful information that brings a lot of... More

Frequent European travelers, we are acquainted with pvt. tours in many settings and locations. Our 2 days with Catia were enjoyable and informative. She not only is motivated to educate a client, but we enjoyed how she allows insight into the Portuguese personality and family life. She gave us a personal window to look into the customs and life of... More

Recently, we were in Portugal and only had four days to see the country. We have self toured most of our trips, but have taken a couple group tours (China/Egypt). At the recommendation of friends, who had been to Portugal, we contacted Catia Luis at Lisbon Stories for a private tour. Catia was great at responding to our needs for... More

Based on excellent reviews, my wife and I booked a day with Catia to visit Evora and a cork factory and we had a great time! She not only gave us a great walking tour of Evora, but she tailored it slightly when she learned I used to teach, showing us the University. After a wonderful lunch at a small... More

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighborhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
