Description: Private Tours For the Culturally Curious! Perfect for travelers, foodies...
Private Tours For the Culturally Curious! Perfect for travelers, foodies and art lovers who want more than a mass tourism experience • Lively and knowledgeable experts • We are local scholars with a passion for the food, wine, culture and history of Portugal • Excellent English-speaking • Easy walks downhill, or luxury vehicles with heat and A/C • Insider tips on restaurants and places locals visit • FREE rides on historic trolleys • Access car-free historic quarters and go inside sights • No megaphones, headsets • Affordable. ----- To really know Lisbon one must go into the small maze-like streets of the city's old quarters, where automobiles are limited and real life unfolds in pedestrian friendly streets and squares. The young and vibrant guides and scholars who lead our tours are not part-time students or actors who memorize scripts, or offer free tours to large groups without advance reservations. We carefully choose historians who are talented at speaking on Lisbon's treasures, and the amazing stories beneath them. After each tour our staff is available to assist with free city maps, additional sights to see, and restaurant or shopping suggestions. We look forward to bringing Lisbon alive for you in truly amazing, historic and relevant detail.

The Hidden Lisbon Tour was definitely one of the highlights of our recent visit to Lisbon. As this was not our first trip to the Portuguese capital, most of the sights we visited with our guide Justin in Baixa, Chiado and Bairro Alto were not all that hidden for us. But that didn't make the tour (certainly also recommendable for... More

As strolled blindly through the crumbling city of Lisbon, Paulo was our guide. He spoke to us in such a captivating manor that we saw Lisbon in a different light. As we walked through the city, Paulo brought us back in time to the 1400's, allowing us to see the city in such rich detail. His passionate, dramatic stories and... More

Paulo is extremely knowledgeable in all things Lisbon, Jewish and non. He told his story in a compelling manner that was interesting for all ages in my family from 16 to 60. He was able to adapt the tour to our specific desires and interests as well as answering questions about everything we could think of. He was extremely passionate... More

Couldn't have asked for a better start to our visit to this wonderful city. Justin was patient, knowledgeable, and yes, at times opinionated (which really helps keep the discussion going.) Thorough history of Lisbon from 200 BC through current times. Great 3 hours!!!

We had a 1/2 day tour of the historical sites off Lisbon, with an emphasis on the Jewish history. Paolo did an amazing job educating us and engaging a group of 18 people from teenagers to 60's. I highly recommend Poalo to anyone who wants an amazing tour day to learn about the history of Lisbon and the hidden history... More

The "hidden Lisbon" walking tour we had with Paolo this week was the best walking tour we have ever had. We were given a whole new perspective on the history of Lisbon and were captivated from start to finish. He recommended several restaurants which we later went to which were all amazing. We also followed some of his many tips... More

We just enjoyed a private 9.5 hour walking tour of Lisbon, 9:30 AM to 7:00 PM. We were a total of four people (two couples) plus Paolo Scheffer, our Lisbon Explorer appointed guide/local connoisseur/historian. Paolo was amazing! He showed on time at our hotel and kept us engaged, entertained and marveled for the whole day. Paolo' s English is native... More

From start to finish working with Lisbon Explorer to plan our family's week of travel through Portugal was a pleasure. The communications with Antonio and Davide were excellent, friendly and always without delay. They really understood the complexities of what our party needed. We have traveled extensively in Europe and Asia and taken many tours, as a family of 8... More

Booked Lisbon Explorer for two different Tours based on Tripadvisors ranking and reviews and we were very happy with their service and our Guide Justin. He gave us a terrific overview of Lisbon and also helped us sort out some of the other things we wanted see and do while in the area. His recommendations (Dining and sightseeing) were excellent...
