Description: Private Tours For the Culturally Curious! Perfect for travelers, foodies...
Private Tours For the Culturally Curious! Perfect for travelers, foodies and art lovers who want more than a mass tourism experience • Lively and knowledgeable experts • We are local scholars with a passion for the food, wine, culture and history of Portugal • Excellent English-speaking • Easy walks downhill, or luxury vehicles with heat and A/C • Insider tips on restaurants and places locals visit • FREE rides on historic trolleys • Access car-free historic quarters and go inside sights • No megaphones, headsets • Affordable. ----- To really know Lisbon one must go into the small maze-like streets of the city's old quarters, where automobiles are limited and real life unfolds in pedestrian friendly streets and squares. The young and vibrant guides and scholars who lead our tours are not part-time students or actors who memorize scripts, or offer free tours to large groups without advance reservations. We carefully choose historians who are talented at speaking on Lisbon's treasures, and the amazing stories beneath them. After each tour our staff is available to assist with free city maps, additional sights to see, and restaurant or shopping suggestions. We look forward to bringing Lisbon alive for you in truly amazing, historic and relevant detail.

I've had many guides in many places through the years who were good. Paulo is a guide, a historian, who knows the Jewish history of Lisbon, is articulate and passionate about Portugal and The Jewish history of Portugal. Paulo isn't like the guides one normally has, he is exceptional. If you are coming to Lisbon and interested in Jewish history,... More

My husband, adult son, and I scheduled two walking tours in Lisbon with Lisbon Explorers. This first tour was with Justin the day we arrived. Justin was so interesting and engaging that we forgot that we were jet-lagged! He took us through the old part of Lisbon and told us the fascinating story of the city's history. He also stopped... Paolo Scheffer gave us a good overview of Portuguese history as well as a history of the Jews in Portugal. He is a passionate and informative guide who engaged us with his knowledge and anecdotes. We would highly recommend him as a guide.

We had 7 family members, including three generations and 1 Portuguese family member, on the Hidden Lisbon tour. It was a wonderful experience and we all learned a lot - even our Portuguese relative! We walked for 3 hours but barely noticed the time. We were busy asking Justin questions and learning more about this beautiful city and its history.

Justin of Lisbon Explorer was a fantastic guide. He simply brought the history of Lisbon in all its ages to life as we leisurely walked round the city. Justin was able to move from topic to topic with ease and go into any depth we wanted him to. Our kids of 16, 14 and 8 got a lot of out... More

We were very lucky to book a private Jewish orientated tour with Paolo. He was professional in every respect. He made the history of Lisbon come alive in a wonderfully animated way. We learnt so much about the Jewish past and present situation as well as seeing the highlights of the centre of Lisbon. Overall I would highly recommend this... More

Paolo took us on an inquisitive and addictive tour of lisbon. Viewed from the eyes of the extensive Jewish history, which was intertwined with the history of the age of exploration, Paolo took us back in time to see, hear and feel the Portuguese history. Paolo is an extremely professional guide. His high proficiency and knowledge of fine details, along... More

What a way to start a vacation! Paolo was superb, not only in his vast knowledge of Portuguese history, different areas of Lisbon, but also specific information regarding current and past Portuguese Jewish facts. He was generous with his time, enthusiastic and accommodating when we needed to stop for a short break. He is highly recommended!

We had a most interesting and informative look at Jewish Lisbon. Paolo was absolutely fantastic, giving us a whole new and personal insight into Portugal and Lisbon in particular. It was not just about buildings and monuments but about real life issues which Poalo conveyed in such an interesting way. The time just whizzed by. Oscar and Ilan
