The young and vibrant guides and scholars who lead our tours are not part-time students or actors who memorize scripts, or offer free tours to large groups without advance reservations. We carefully choose historians who are talented at speaking on Lisbon's treasures, and the amazing stories beneath them. After each tour our staff is available to assist with free city maps, additional sights to see, and restaurant or shopping suggestions. We look forward to bringing Lisbon alive for you in truly amazing, historic and relevant detail. « less

we recently had the privilege of being guided by Paolo on a Jewish Lisbon tour. He was absolutely magnificent. The depth of his knowledge of the Jewish communiies with in Portugal was amazing and further he was very warm and sincere and easy to communicate with throughout the entire time he spent with us. Not only did he provide us... More

Private Hidden Walking Tour with four people for a private tour in Bairro alto and Chiado. Normally, it was for 3 hours, but our guide Paolo stayed with us for four and a half hours, taking all of his time to tell us about the great history of Lisboa, without being subjective. He is an art historian and professor but... More

Our group of eight spent five hours hanging on Paolo's every word and wishing for more. We were on information overload as we learnt about the history of the Jews and their sacrifices in Portugal. It made us want to go home and do more research and read the books he spoke about. Paolo is engaging and charming and as... More

We took two tours with Lisbon Explorer. Our guide, Paolo did such an outstanding job on our Hidden Lisbon Tour that we begged him to make sure he was our guide for The Alfama Tour. His way of presenting Lisbon kept us in rapt attention. Never boring, never run on, but an intelligent, warm and witty presentation of his city.... More

Paolo Scheffer's Jewish Heritage Tour of Lisbon was the highlight of our 10 day trip to Portugal, and lucky for us, it was on Day 1! Paolo helped us to understand not only the Jewish history of Portugal, but also Portugal's positions and situations throughout WWI, WWII and up to the present. Non-stop information, non-stop enthusiasm, so enthusiastic, responsive to... More

Our family of 8 arranged for a combined Hidden Lisbon/Jewish Lisbon with Paolo. If there is a more enthusiastic tour guide out there, I would be surprised. Paolo had so much passion, knowledge and energy. His ability to relate to the varied ages of the group was wonderful. He would weave the stories together as we walked the town keeping... More

We had one day in Lisbon during a cruise. We booked the Jewish Lisbon tour through Lisbon Explorer with the only Jewish guide in Portugal. For 5 hours our amazing guide, Paolo Scheffer, gave us an unforgettable tour. He is an authority and scholar on everything related to Jewish history in Portugal. We visited the major sites of Lisbon and... More

Just back from a 4 hour tour with Paolo (lucky us!!). Whatever you read on TripAdvisor about him and the Lisbon Explorer is a huge understatement. He made it a 3D experience in ultra HD and took us back into time. I just wish we had enough time to take all their tours in Lisbon. A special mention to Julia... More

We were in Portugal in July 2014, and I have to say, it is the most amazing country!. The tour guides from Lisbon Explorer made it all come alive! First, we did a half day tour of Sintra with Lilly, and she was fabulous! She knew a lot about the art and furniture in the castles as well as the... More
