Owner description: For the Culturally Curious! • Lively and knowledgeable experts • Perfect for travelers who don't like standard boring tours • We are local scholars with a passion for the food, wine, culture and history of Portugal • Excellent English-speaking • Easy walks downhill, or luxury vehicles with heat and A/C • Insider tips on restaurants and places locals visit • FREE rides on historic trolleys • Access car-free historic quarters and go inside sights • Groups limited to 8 guests • no megaphones, headsets • Affordable ---- To really know Lisbon one must go into the small maze-like streets of the city's old quarters, where automobiles are limited and real life unfolds in pedestrian friendly streets and squares. The young and vibrant guides and scholars who lead our tours are not part-time students or actors who memorize scripts, or offer free tours to large groups without advance reservations. We carefully choose historians who are talented at speaking on Lisbon's treasures, and the amazing stories beneath them. After each tour our staff is available to assist with free city maps, additional sights to see, and restaurant or shopping suggestions. We look forward to bringing Lisbon alive for you in truly amazing, historic and relevant detail.

Hands down the most informative, captivating and mesmerizing guided tour we have ever taken. No guide could ever measure up to Paolo Scheffer. We were a small group with a rather large age gap. Nevertheless, we all came away from the tour knowing we had just spent our day with a true expert! Highlight of our entire trip!

The Jewish Tour of Lisbon with Paolo was quite easily the highlight of my 3 week trip to Portugal. Incredibly engaging, informative, and fascinating. I'd recommend this tour to absolutely anyone passing through Lisbon with a spare afternoon.

We only had one day in Lisbon because we were on a cruise. Thankfully we booked Paulo for the full day as we packed in a weeks worth of Lisbon into one day. Paulo's English was perfect and his general knowledge amazing. If you are particularly interested in Jewish life in Portugal then insist on Paulo. We would not hesitate... More

What a wonderful trip this was, saw amazing scenery and was taken to several of the local churches. Guides in Lisbon are tourist friendly and only too happy to answer any questions

Paolo Scheffer is engaging and knowledgeable, and his tour of the Jewish--and general--sites of Lisbon was excellent. His tour was chockful of historical information and vivid stories about people and events in Rossio Plaza, the Alfama district, and many other public areas of interest. Along the way, he gave us a multi-century overview of the general history of Lisbon and... More

We met Justin from Lisbon Explorer at the Arch late, which was our fault due to our misunderstanding the time and rendezvous point. However, he was gracious and completely understanding. His historical knowledge and architectual expertise were unsurpassed and provided us with an in-depth and at times startling view of this wonderful city and it's people. His lovely sense of... More

We did 3 tours with Paolo & we can highly recommend him. Paolo is a walking encyclopaedia but brought the information to life with a wonderful sense of humour. We did the Hidden Lisbon walking tour on our first day to get to know our way around, then the next day the around Alfama walking tour & then straight into... More

This tour was unbelievable. We went with Justin, a true historian. He knows everything about the city, country, history, and culture. We wanted to do a normal tour because they are reasonably priced, but they were all sold out, so we booked a private tour. The $150 price tag seemed like a lot, but it was our only option. It... My wife and I took the "Hidden Lisbon" tour, and would have done others with this group if we had time. Lisbon is a city to be walked. The bus tour we tried sat in traffic, played tinny muzak most of the time, and gave a 20 second recorded comment on a sight every five minutes or so. The guide... More
