The tower of Belem is for sure a fabulous historic monument - very well preserved and unique - well worth a visit when in the area and free access with the lisboa card. This beautiful monument is one highlight of lisbon, it was in times, an fort to protect the city and the river from invasor, now it´s a beatiful monument to visit. The Belem tower was built as a fortress'to control the entrance to Lisbon harbor. A Moorish style watchtower .in the river side are arcaded windows. a nice scenery from the top of the tower on the harbor and the city the tower became a symbol of Lisbon. More
