The tower is nice, well preserved for its half a century age.I was a bit let down by its size, because somehow I have imagined it to be enormours fortress , but this is small. We didn't go inside, because it was closed during our visit, but there were not any crowds. I believe there are some nice views from the... More

I visited the Tower of Belem on a Sunday when it was free. Apparently, half the tourists in Lisbon had made the same choice, along with about half a dozen of school groups. Because the staircases inside the tower are very narrow, what could have been an easy climb that could be completed in 5 minutes, turned into close to... More

We visited Belem as a family, and went straight to see the Tower. It's a 10 minute walk from the tram across a pedestrian bridge which runs over a highway and train track. The tower itself is like a fairy tale, shining white, rising from the water, with intricate details. The original tower was farther off shore, but more recently... More

I'm one of those people who likes to savour the 'feeling' of a place, so I would recommend at last a couple of hours to hang out at the tower. A definite must- lots of interesting things to see. Important: If you are claustrophobic, DO NOT go up the middle stone staircase, or if you must up the courage, make... More

A wonderful 360 view on top of a fabulous tower. On a clear day the view seems endless. The view of the mosaic Atlas below the tower is terrific. More

The tower of Belem is for sure a fabulous historic monument - very well preserved and unique - well worth a visit when in the area and free access with the lisboa card. What a shame that there was such a poor welcome (not even an acknowledgment of our existence in front of the grumpy lady at the ticket booth)... More

This beautiful monument is one highlight of lisbon, it was in times, an fort to protect the city and the river from invasor, now it´s a beatiful monument to visit. From here you can have a great view over the Tejo River, 25 April Bridge (same architech as San Francisco Bridge) and over the Belem Gardens. More

When I got to see a local historical attraction I expect to know by the time I leave what actually happened there. This was hardly the case in the Belem tower. Buying the combined ticket with the ministry I went in to find not only a very small site but barely any information. Short info plaques told tiny parts of... More

The Belem tower was built as a fortress'to control the entrance to Lisbon harbor. A Moorish style watchtower .in the river side are arcaded windows. a nice scenery from the top of the tower on the harbor and the city the tower became a symbol of Lisbon. More
