My friend and I found our way in here and were pleasantly surprised that we could walk around and enjoy the beautiful architecture. What stood out for me for this church was the selection of modern art that they had adorn the walls. I was impressed that they were progressive and embraced and supported their local artists.

This was the first church we stepped into as it is right on the main street into town. Lovely and old. We were able to go inside and take a few pictures. Also, a priest was available and sitting near the altar ready to hear confession.

Angra Do Heroismo has several small and medium size Cathedrals that are well worth visiting. This one dates to the early 1500's and has been lovingly restored since the earthquake damaged it significantly in the late 1980's. As with most Cathedrals of this type it is still in use so please show the proper respect to the locals who may... More

A beautiful church in the heart of the old town of Angra. Definitly worth a visit. The church itself is not overloaded with decoration and art, but has some nice stuff (See the exhibition) to look at.

A most impressive building, set off the middle of one of the man streets. It is yellow and cream and although dating back to the 16C has been restored due to recent earthquakes. Alarmed statue of Pope Paul 111 stands outside, as he visited the island. Inside the atmosphere is calm and impressive and the day we visited there was... More

This 16th century parish church has suffered through both earthquakes and fires, yet determined efforts through the years of turmoil have preserved its beauty. Major repairs and reconstruction efforts are evident inside but do not diminish the overall positive appeal of this grand structure. The Sé Cathedral, visited by Pope Paul II, is well worth a visit.

Situated literally in the middle of the town's main street, Rua da Sé", this church is beautiful. An undeniable landmark in the town's landscape and breathtaking on the inside. For generations, the steps in front of the cathedral have been the place where young and old sit and watch the world go by, or enjoy the local festivities. A must... More

Nice Cathedral if a bit modern (Rebuilt after a fire) - 2 Euro entrance fee. Good idea to take a visit the on a wet day :-)

When you go to Angra do Heroísmo you must visit this cathedral! Outside is more beautiful than inside...
